Reasons for deciding on Intel or AMD

Likewise, but I still wouldn't pay that much extra for that little extra performance :) Depends on your budget and needs, of course.
the eternal question

last time out I ended up with a 10400f at £100 the bang for buck suited my gaming needs

OCUK currently charges £120 more for the 14700k than the 14600k; that's a lot of money for not much extra performance (except under a few circumstances where the extra cores really count).

Approx 18% difference in application performance on average, but some applications it is quite significant, gaming wise at higher resolutions and settings not much in it but some games, and likely to be increasingly so in the future, which can take advantage of having 16+ performance threads there is a more noticeable difference especially in minimum FPS.

It is a bit of an odd one in some ways as despite not a huge amount in it the 14600 sits very middle of the pack and nowhere near the top end CPUs while the 14700 can just about hang in with the much more expensive top of the pack CPUs.
