rebuilt pc loads of data missing on hard drive?

as above i recently upgraded my computer new mobo , cpu , ram etc put my storage drive in after windows was installed and there is loads of files missing maybe like 2gig or so.

can these files be recovered at all ?

also what would cause them to vanish ?

Dropped, knocked it or anything? If not ran a magnet or a mobile phone near it ? I aint sure how this would affect but ive been told not to do these things

Is there any pattern to what's missing, whole directories or just random files?

two complete folders are missing with about 2gig of files.

is there any programs i can use to recover the files?

Try Recuva, very good at it's job,has got out of a mess on a few occasions.

May be a permissions issue where your new profile may not have the necessary rights to access those folders. If your profile is set as an administrator you should be able to take ownership of folders and files.

Alternatively could they just be hidden and you've not got explorer to show hidden folders/files?
