Hi all, I;m in the market for a new PC. This next upgrade will have to last a while - I dont mind to odd little upgrade like more memory etc, but noting expensive.

I need the following:
CPU
MoBo
CPU cooler
RAM
Gfx Card
PSU
case
LCD monitor

This PC will need to be quiet and there are a few thing that i do want.

The first of these is the TOP gfx card - I have never had the opportunity to go in at the top, and as this has to last me, i think now is the time to do it.

Next is a 24" LCD screen, I will be using it for Photoshop and WoW and FPS games. Have seen the Dell 2407 FWP (or something like that) that looks good.

Case wise i have seen a Zalman quiet case - but i havent seen any reviews of it OCUK do sell it, and i think its about £250 = which does seem a lot but if its silent then its worth it for me.

Lastly is the budget, i have £2000 to spend, i dont need any HDD's of DVD drive and i have mouse and keyboard.

Please let me know what you can come up with.

I have only had AMD before, but I hear that the Intel C2D are a lot better than the equ8ilivent AMD dual cores.

I hope you can help.

With £2,000 to spend you could go quad core:

Mobo - Gigabyte GA_965P_D... 1
LCD - Acer AL2416Ws 24" ... 1
CPU - cooler Zalman CNPS9700-LE... 1
RAM - Team Xtreem 1GB (2... 1
Gfx - EVGA GeForce 8800 ... 1
PSU - Corsair HX 620W AT... 1
CPU - Intel Core 2 Quadr... 1
Case - Antec Nine Hundred... 1

But if you want the latest in graphics, I'd advise you to wait a few months until the 8900's and R600's are out, and get a mid-range graphics card in the meantime.

Also, I'd rather get the Tuniq Tower than the Zalman personally... but occasionally people moan about the Tuniq being a little noisy on full setting, although that can be changed as the fan inside it is easily swappable for a quieter fan.

Not really bothered about quad core, just want a really good dual core I think.

Havent seen that Acer monitor, will havae a look at it. Is it as good as the Dell?

well this is similar to a system I am speccing but I have added the extras that you wanted

this should meet your needs quite nicely I think.

I have added on the HDD's and DVD drives as extras. You can never have to many hdd's.

the problem with that thinking is that you will be paying 50% more for a gfx card which is 10-15% quicker than an alternative.

as the 2 cards will have the same architecture, when one is obsolete the next one will be obsolete too. i.e its not going to be a case where the 8800GTS cant play a game and the GTX can... once games start pushing that boundry they are both going to be okay - or both will be underpowered - so close are they in terms of performance.

the rate of gfx card development is phenomenal i would spend £200 this year, and then sell it in 12 months and buy the next best for £200 next year and continue...this way you can ensure you always have great performance..

What other cases are going to be quiet? As i dont like the Akasa's plastic front?

Also, is it worth going for a seperate sound card?

That spec with out the HDD's if you really dont need them... And add a XFI Music and a 74GB raptor :) Or vista to be very future proof. Would suggest 4GB for newer games and vista combo.
