Reccommend me some RPGs

tbh you played all the ones I can think of, except Bioshock and the original Deus Ex. It has been out for years so looks a bit dated now. But great game when I played at the time. Fable 2 if you have xbox 360 (haven't played it, but seems to get good reviews)

Anyway you may want to check out a German developped game: Perry Rhodan. It isn't an RPG, but an adventure game based on Perry Rhodan saga. Story and graphics are excellent, so you may want to check it out, and will only cost like a £5 if you can find an english copy. Must admit I haven't played it, but am intrigued, if i find a copy i may just give it a go.

Fallout 3 is worth playing for sure.

Man oh man, baldurs gate II was one of my all time favourite RPGs, remember doing every single side quest. What a game!

Assuming you can find a legit copy, or a suitable abandonware site, Ultima 7 is still worth a play despite its ancient graphics.

I'd recommend Vampire: The Masquerade Bloodlines - Very nicely done story based RPG, with some nice combat and shooting involved if you want to.

Patch it to official 1.2, then I think it's version 6.0 of the unofficial patches at the moment.

Love it - cant beat sneaking up on unsuspecting humans for a little drink :p

Should be able to pick it up on Steam, or bargain basement somewhere for not a lot of pennies. Great replay value as well, going through the different clans, finally got around to doing Malkavian! Mad as a brush.

Excellent game that's going back a long way mind.

Even ultima IX ascencion was a great game imo, i'm a huge ultima fanboy though, especially ultima online, took up years of my life.

Can I ask why you didn't like FF7?

Some great suggestions above, however I'm more into JRPG's - I guess it's cus I grew up playing them.

I've played all the final fantasy's however I never got into FF8 at the time. So i've recently downloaded it and am using a ps1 emulator - gotta say one of my best gaming experiences for a LONG time amazing, amazing game.

Also PS2's have a load of good rpg's on them, so maby get one of them cheap.

Also I don't think it's worth completely ruling out mmorpg's, I think you should at least give the lord of the rings or wow free trial a go..

Bloodlines is the only major western RPG you've missed out on - best-written dialogue since Planescape Torment imho, definitely one of the most engrossing and immersive games ever. Get the community patches, although tbh I played on the official 1.2 patch and didn't experience any serious bugs.

The Gothic series are also quite good. I played Gothic 3 but couldn't stick with it for long because I picked it up right after Bloodlines - the dialogue was somewhat clumsily-translated (the games are originally German) and the VO actors mostly had the charm of a wet towel, and it really grated after having spent a month in the company of the charismatic bloodsuckers of Bloodlines :p But it's a solid RPG with a big world and dauntingly open-ended (even right at the beginning I was presented with so many options of things to do!) and a decent plot. People who've also played Oblivion mostly tell me that Gothic 3 beats it hands down. Sadly, like Bloodlines, you need to faff about with the community patches to get it playable. There's a 4th Gothic in the pipeline though so your investment might be rewarded.

I haven't played any of the Gothics before 3 or any of the Elder Scrolls games before Morrowind, but a lot of people look back on them very fondly. Elder Scrolls fans especially frequently moan that Bethesda sold out with Morrowind and the previous games were much better.

Hmm your ruling a lot out if you don't like JRPG's.

Exceptional ones for me are Lost Odyssey and Enchanted Arms.

American wise I'd say the original Deus Ex is a fantastic hybrid RPG buy my main recommendation would be Gothic 1-3. Gothics are very similar to Oblivion but very hardcore.

I've played Deus Ex and Bioshock, both fantastic games, I just didn't include them because they are hybrids.

Vampire bloodlines and the Gothic games do seem to be the main ones that passed me by, I'll definitely give them a try.

Play The Longest Journey before Dreamfall. I did prefer TLJ over Dreamfall as the latter had a lot of plot holes however they will sort them out in Dreamfall 2.

I've never really played any of these style of adventure games but those three all look interesting, thanks.

try dungeon seige?

zia

Ahh, I forgot to put this one in. I've played both Dungeon Siege games, I'll edit them into the OP.

Jeez guys at least read the first post in the ******* thread .

Indeed!

Jade Empire is another Bioware one isn't, it in the same vein as KOTOR? That might be worth a shot.

EDIT - Oh and Fable + Fable 2 seem to be highly regarded.

I don't know anything about Jade Empire but I'll be sure to look at some gameplay videos and reviews.

I've seen Fable 2 played on Xbox 360, it seems to be very consolised and gimmicky so I'll give it a miss.

Well, I didn't hate it, I just wasn't very keen on the combat system or the random encounters, it's as simple as that. I did play it to completion though because apart from those two things it was a decent enough game.

Also I don't think it's worth completely ruling out mmorpg's, I think you should at least give the lord of the rings or wow free trial a go..

I would give them a go if it wasn't for the monthly fee, and as I can't see them removing that any time soon I won't be playing them. Enough on that though, lets not let this get into an MMORPG debate :)

Must have missed that, sorry! Actually even though it doesn't seem particularly involved it does look like it could be enjoyable, thanks :)

Like I said no reason why you shouldn't try the free trials out. No need to put credit card details, you just put "pay by cheque". Forget about the monthly fees, just give it a good amount of hours and see what you think :)

The thing is I'm pretty sure I would like some MMORPGs, but I'm never going to pay a monthly fee, so I don't want to start playing, get hooked, and then have to subscribe to play more.

Don't understand people who don't want to pay a monthly fee.

For the same reason I don't subscribe to Sky, Setanta, have a contract mobile etc... I could afford it if I wanted to but decide not to because I'd rather spend the money on other things.

Grrrr !!!!! I say GRRRRRR!

So let me get this straight - you think maby you would like mmorpg's - however you don't want to try them in case you get hooked. And that is a bad thing?

Yes it's £9 a month, but then a normal game is around £20. That would buy you wow (with it's free month included), a extra month and if you did the free trial before hand another 10days.

So on the one hand you have a £20 single player rpg which although is yours forever gets boring after the first playthrough ~ i.e 20-100 hours worth, on the other you have £20 for 2 months and 10 days of an mmorpg which you are likely to put well in excess of the time you would spend on a single player game!

however if you want to be really clever forget that idea and learn to love JRPG's - as they F-ing rock!!

Well it's not all JRPGs per se, mainly the random encounter and combat systems from old Square games before they merged with Enix. I don't really know what's going on with many modern JRPGs which is why I wanted recommendations of exceptional ones. Lost Odyssey looks like it could be decent but it's only available on Xbox 360 which I don't have. I see that there's a demo for Last Remnant though, so I'll give that a try and if I like it I'll buy the full game when it's out on PC.
