Recent Events in Japan - Earthquake + Air-Crash

...Red hold lights on this runway were out of service, shouldn't have mattered though.

I fly for a living and see this frequently - it really really annoys me. It shouldn't have mattered but nonetheless, had they been working it's quite likely that the accident wouldn't have happened.

Having only seen media reports (so take with a pinch of salt), however there seem to be some other questions to be asked about how the evacuation was conducted. One is that the engines seem to be running during the initial evacuation, which for obvious reasons is a big no no. The other report is that the cabin crew had the passengers gather at the bottom of the slide to check for injuries(?). Again - once you've evacuated an aircraft your first priority is to get as far away from it as possible.

Problems shutting the engine down probably. Communication between cockpit and cabin was also down, pilots unaware of fire as well.

With the runway lights, yep would have avoided it. The ATC audio I heard is very unclear.

Looks like last person off the Japan plane was 18 minutes after the crash, not 90 seconds.
Coastguard plane had no clearance to be on runway as ATC transcripts show but was lined up for takeoff.

Watching the live coverage I find that hard to believe in 20 minutes the entire passenger cabin was engulfed in fire

I presume different airports have different procedures but at my workplace, if we have an unservicable stop bar, the holding point is closed. Barriers and red lamps are put in place to prevent any aircraft or vehicles using them.

The airfield ground lighting lamps themselves are designed to fail on. If of course they aren't illuminated for whatever reason then as above, the holding point is closed.

If an aircraft is at a holding point and the stop bar fails and cannot be dropped, a Follow Me is used to lead the aircraft on.

As you also know though, just because the stop bar isn't illuminated, it doesn't mean you have permission to proceed.

...and now another earthquake. 6.0 apparently in central Japan.
6.0 is magnitudes smaller than the 7.0 they had, I'd be surprised if there's any damage at all from it given their building designs for Earthquake resistance, of course the worry is it might be a foreshock for something larger

They didnt crash on the runway. Typical media nonsense.

I understand that it's a blizzard, but isn't this the whole point of air traffic control? To have 2 collisions in one month isn't great.
This happened on pushback at the gate, not an ATC issue really, likewise with the 1st incident, no evidence ATC was at fault pilot of the coastguard plane wasn't cleared to be on the runway.
