Recomend me a codec pack

K-Lite Codec pack, free and excellent for playback for your .mkv files. With many video as well as audio options to ajust to your likeing.

Noooooooo! it's dreadful!

CCCP is the best choice (other than the Vista codec package which I'll begrudgingly admit is rather good)

Best option by far = install FFDshow, divx (official divx + converter - drivers only, and download the "turnoffdivxtoolbar" app) and quicktime alternative, plus flac, mp3 and oggvorbis codecs.

If it doesnt play, go for the individual codecs. - all my media plays with the above :)

I use k-lite with vista 64bit components and real alternative. Plays everything I've thrown at it so far in 32bit wmp11, even with 64bit add on's codecs like x-vid, mkv and a few others will not play in media centre and wmp11 64bit, well not in my experience and I've tried all of the ones listed above plus the k-lite 64 bit pack - this just basically adds the same experimental 64bit ffdshow codecs as the vista 64bit components, just isn't as stable for some reason.

I'm happy with K-Lite. I'm not sure all 64bit stuff is really ready yet, quite a few 3rd party 64bit stuff has been quite buggy, while not speaking from experience, I'd imagine codecs to be the same.

Installed KMP today and I have to say I'm impressed

Wahey, at last!!!

KMP does not need any codecs, and plays everything thats thrown at it.

I frist heard about it a year ago ( Give or take ) and since then, I have not had to install any stupid crappy codec packs, and it has played absolutely 100% of whatever I have asked it to.

Even the most obsolete junk that need codec packs... KMP Plays flawlessly.

Im not saying it never will, its just that I have never bothered with codec packs since using it.

works on anythign too, so none of this Whiny moaning about XP64 or Vista 64 cos KMP works in them all.
