I bought myself a flourish yellow dhb windslam roubaix long sleeve "jersey" from wiggle - it's outstanding. I say "Jersey" because it's basically a soft shell jacket. It's certainly thicker than my soft shell Gore jacket, which has now been relegated to the back of the cupboard!
The most I wore this winter was a long sleeve winter weight Prendas base layer, normal short sleeve summer base layer and the dhb over the top - perfectly fine down to 0 degrees.
Also, it's been fine on its own with just a summer base layer underneath all the way into the 10-12 degree range as it has breathable panels down the side and under the arms. For £40, it's probably the best bit of cycling clothing over ever bought
