Why does it have to be £1k+? Is it some sort of badge of honour to have a 4 figure expresso machine which just isn't satisfied by one that costs £899? :p

By all means if there is a cheaper one. I'm all ears. Which one do you recommend?

I don't want a pod or all in one system. Already buying a separate grinder and roaster.

this one looks good

If you;re spending that much money, spend more.

A high end coffee machine is like a high end watch - it's not enough to be functional, it also has to be well engineered and good looking.

There are three reasons to buy an expensive coffee machine - the first is that you're a shop. Are you a shop? The second is that you have a lot of money and want something big and showy in the kitchen. In which case, buy the biggest, shiniest one you can afford. The third is that you actually know what you're doing with coffee and espresso extraction, and have decided that a particular machine has the features you know that you need for the drinks you want to make.

Based on "Recommend a 1k+ espresso machine" with no other supporting information, I'm assuming it's option two. So just go nuts in John Lewis or something; it won't really matter.

Mainly espresso i will use it for and sometmes cappacunio for guests.

It will be used primarily for me but when i have guests around which is quite frequent, it wil be used for them too.

either lever or electronic pump i do not mind. Only thing i do not want is a all in one bean to cup machine and a Pod type system.

Ive tried the rancilio silva which my mate has and thats pretty decent so i may consider that.
