I'm going to be replacing my old 200Gb Seagate Barracuda IDE drive with a brand spanking new 5000AAKS and want to use the old drive as an external backup device.

My first though was to buy an Icy Box caddy but I've read a couple of bad reports about them on here.

What would you recommend and is the Icy Box as bad as suggested?

Many thanks.

As far as functionality is concerned, my IcyBox is fine, and I have nothing against them. What I do have against them is that they're passively cooled and will let the harddrive inside cook itself if you're not careful. So if you want to be able to leave your external disk on for extended periods (as I do sometimes) then you must ensure it's under a fan or get an actively cooled enclosure (e.g. one with a fan or fans.) If you're only occassionally going to be having your external disk on, then an IcyBox will probably do you fine. Just don't make the mistake to think that because it's got the word "icy" in the name, that it's particularly cool in terms of temperatures. :D

The Antec MX1 seems to be good and have had good comments on here as well.
