Recommend a CPU Cooler!

What air cooler would you recommend for a 5820K in a Corsair 540?
I'm seriously considering replacing my H100i and going to pure air. Anyone have any recommendations on a good cooler for OCing?

What problems are you having with the H100i that you need to change mate? I am using one on my 5960x with 4 fans and its doing a great job cooling at 4.6ghz. Its been a while since I have used air cooling but pretty sure the Noctua's are highly recommended still.

Maybe just change the fans if there to noisey.

The stock fans are awful on that cooler, I had to change mine, should have mentioned that.

Would also like to know what the problem with the H100i is, though. I also had to change the stock fans. One of them came with an irregular interior frame (plus fan wobble) that would make the blades catch on it and grind. The other was fine but still noisy, even at 1000 RPM, so out they went.

Why does nobody mention thermalright? IDK if OCUK sell them but thermalright are usually the best "bang for buck" and good quality, eg. the thermalright macho rev B is £45 and same performance as D14.

OcUK do not sell Thermalright anymore. Probably because Case King isn't selling them.

TRUE Spirit 140 series are very good, especially the Rev.A and Power models,. and reasonably priced too. Also the Macho 140mm fanned coolers.

To be honest I just fancied going back to an all air system. I don't really have any complaints with the H100 so not sure what I want to do.
Will the H100i still trump a good air cooler? May replace the fans as they are stupid loud on full chat

H100 never did and never will "trump" top tier air coolers.

The h100i is better than any air cooler I have tried I can tell you that. In a different league, change the fans.

Here is accurate testing that proves H100i is "in a different league." A much inferior league.

Even at full speed sounding 8 times as loud as NH-D15) it is still 1c hotter than NH-D15. Slow it down to 40dBA (still half again as loud as NH-D15 and H100i is 4c hotter. H100i GTX is 2.5c better, but H100i series are still the hottest (and arguably noisiest) CLC with 240 radiator.

Like I said its in a different league than the ones I have tested and used. and I use 4 fans not 2. But thanks for the charts anyway.

Dont see much benefit ditching the H100i for air, few degrees difference at best?

My H100i GTX barely tops 55 degrees when encoding with Handbrake, that's on quiet mode too. Granted its only a 2500k at 4.6 and not a top end CPU.

There will be no benefit whatsoever, not with 4 fans.

Look for a Cryorig R1Ultimate! Beat looking air cooler out there, cheaper than Phanteks/Noctua equivalents and better than pretty much anything other than the highest end AIO water cooling units (pretty sure its better than H100 from reviews floating about).

Not sold on OCUK though!
