Recommend a PC Game

I would recommend Civ4 aswell. Truly epic game. I only got it a week or so ago. I remember playing Civ2 when I was really young and thought I'd get the same experience and I did. Worth every penny.

Well, it's hard to argue with such a well thought out retort

Well he has a point, except for Fallout3, I haven't come across an rpg that was interesting enough yet... Oblivion was meh, NWN2 was meh, rose online was meh, etc...

Civ4 complete ( so civ4 + 2 exp packs) is 10 euros now so it's indeed worth every penny, it's even worth so much more than that.

KOTOR1, the witcher, morrowind?

Difference of opinions I believe though.

I would definatly recomend Medieval Total War 2, my favourite game of all time, and by far the best ever RTS.
OMG I forgot about total war lol, really good series imo too, loved rome and medieval 2.

Yeah, RPG games aren't my thing, fallout 3 made up with actually interesting quests/choises ( nuke megaton hehe, and the robot at the end ), guns and cool gore/vats though :p. I don't know I've tried playing oblivion, i got ''into it'' then after 3 hours I thought ''meh''. Same with NWN2. Haven't tried morrowind, kotor or the witcher. Problem is games with stuff like spells or such just annoy me too much, I can cope with a bit of surrealism, a lot in fact, but magic and spells is a step too far for me I'm afraid, I just get annoyed if I get owned by it :p. In fallout 3 I don't have that problem, I grab my rocket launcher and shoot anyone in my way I don't like ( I killed 3dog just because he didn't want to tell me where my dad was immediately :D and the main quest could still be done like that, that's what I like about fallout 3, you can play the evil ******* and still finish the game and enjoy it a lot :D).

Morrowind had a lot more to do in it than oblivion. More immersive, it's mostly melee though tbh. You do get the odd mage and what not, and if you choose to go one. :p

Kotor I've only put 4 hours into recently, it's awesome though. Starwars and rpg, very much like fallout3 with karma and what not. The witcher I havn't bought but played the demo. :p

I don't know many others that aren't swords and sorcery tbh...

Most of the new games I've played have been rather bland.

Never heard of Dead Space until a friend lent it to me and I must say, its great :D

get company of heroes gold, it's been out what 2 years now and still has me playing everyday it's very deep online.

I can't wait til I get home and upgrade my GPU and monitor - I've been idly looking at titles in the games shops and there looks like some awesome stuff out now. I got a bit bored of gaming a while after RTCW came out as everything seemed a bit samey. BF1942 just left me underwhelmed so haven't played any PC games for aaaages now.

Oh, apart from Doom 3. I played that for about 15 minutes and nearly died of heart attack so had to turn it off. I think lack of exposure turned me into a girlie :(

Erm have you ever heard of Knights of the old republic?

Here is my list:

Orange box
Supreme Commander
Company of Heroes
Call of Duty 4: Modern Warfare
Galactic Civilisations 2: Ultimate Edition (not a process taxing game, but VERY good)
Sins of a Solar Empire

I would say orange box a must due to all the games and the multiplay will keep you going back to it. I just brought Gears of war for the pc got it dirty cheap and if your after a game to pick up and play its not all that bad no one playing multiplay though.

@PoD: I couldnt' get into SupCom at all... I loved Red Alert 2, Age of Empires 2 and the like. Just couldn't stand SupCom after about an hour of playing. Maybe my brain is getting older and is unable to deal with all that stuff :p

Agreed, it's ok as a strategy game, but the games take ages to actually get anywhere, far too long for my liking. Red Alert 1 and original c&c are what I really enjoy, though I didn't like ra3 at all and cnc3 was an improvement on generals, but was still not as good as the older c&c games.

Anyway, personally I'd recommend Left 4 Dead, Counterstrike Source and C&C3, or if you prefer the longer drawn out strategy games, Supreme Commander.

above posts, commenting how supreme commander is 'long' and 'takes ages to get anywhere', you are aware it doesn't have to take ages to do anything, its easily possible to play a short game of supreme commander, especially on the smaller maps with several opponants battling it out against eachother. for example one could go for very early kill rushing T1/T2 units for example, thats fairly effective, another approach (on small maps, like 5km by 5km) you can use T2 artillery and T2 tactical missiles, another is the application of air power, dominate the skies and victory is swift and decisive. so you see if you think about it supreme commander doesn't need to be any longer than C&C games but it still has the potential for much more tactics and strategy than those very rush orientated games. it still has the option of long, massive games on enormous maps as well, so its a win/win game IMO, something C&C isn't since it lacks any 'long game' potential.

as an avid supreme commander player and long time fan of the TA series, they are the best non-space strategy games available for an absolute ton of reasons, and IMHO getting any other RTS over supreme commander is about the most foolish thing someone can do. :p

Nah, I disagree with that, it's a superb game but I prefer Company of Heroes' small scale, it's not got the spectacle but I just find it miles more involving. Shame it's got a bit stagnant, not enough armies or unit variation to give it a really long life in multi.

Company of Heroes needs more options, i.e. the Red Army, too many games big up the Americans in WWII, they always forget the fact the Russians played an enormous part in the defeat of the Axis, they lost more people than all of the others involved put together, like 21 million or something ridiculous like that, they had brilliant tanks, aircraft and used massed artillery. they made the British far too defencive, since we're an island nation were naturally on the offence in Normandy and Germany, so the whole defencive thing is ridiculous

i do however love playing as the Panzer Elite, they're especially deadly in urban enviroments, panzershriek squads are stupidly good. another thing Company of Heroes could use, a Pacific theatre, the war against the Japanese, i hope Relic are taking note :p

more choice of armour would be good addition as well, since we only have the Sherman, Sherman Firefly and Sherman Calliope, there were so many other tanks in WWII its unreal, also better air power, the occational 'strafing' run doesn't do WWII justice since it was a largely air war, IMO the small scale of Company of Heroes ruins the potential, since World War II was far from small scale trying to portray it on a small scale is a bit stupid.

Yeah, but then it doesn't try to be a documentary, after all it's a base-building RTS, it makes no sense in real terms. It helps the gameplay though IMO, scale it up and it'd lose its detail and charm. (what are the best missions in COH? Carentan and the Hill- both basically small engagements where you're stretched too thin. The absolute worst mission is the Tiger Ace one where you have space and time to build a big army.)
