Recommend A RPG

That's a FPS. Not RPG. Sure it has masses of guns, armour but it is still a shooter

Borderlands - FPS

I progressed through a story line involving quests and side quests that gave me loot and XP as rewards allowing me to deal more damage and unlock new skills to defeat tougher bosses. I also earnt money by smashing boxes and looting the dead corpses of fallen enemies allowing me to go to a vendor to buy new items. I completed challenges to further add minor stat boosts to my character.

Baldurs Gate - CRPG

So it's just the perspective that you take issue with? Or did the reading also swing it :p

Indeed, otherwise by that logic Skyrim is an FPS (you still "shoot" a bow ;))

Another vote for Witcher 3 + DLC's.

Also check out ELEX, bit like Skyrim in a way. You can play with swords and magic, but also with guns or energy weapons, so got bit of a mix as to what you would like to play.

APRG = Grim Dawn
Old School 3D RPG ala Dungeon Master - Legend of Grimrock 1 & 2
Old School Sci Fi Bards tale type - Wasteland 2
Planescape remake - Tides of Numenor or whatever its called?
MMORPG - Elder Scrolls Online, WoW
Witcher 1/2/3

my 2cp

Interesting argument between the likes of Borderlands, Skyrim, Fallout etc. versus Balders Gate, Legend of Grimrock, Pillars of Eternity etc. In my head the factor that splits these types of games into what I would categorise as a game with RPG elements and a game that is pure / old school RPG is the combat system and party management. The pure / old school style RPGs are all about turn based combat and party management and this is what I think of when a game is referred to as an RPG in the traditional sense.

Yeah, Skyrim or FO4 I'd class as an ARPG. Morrowind however was more old school RPG given the more in-depth stats and inventory IMO. I love the depth of traditional RPGs to be honest, the market is quite small in the grand scheme of things so not many get made these days. :(

Witcher 3

/thread end tbh lol

or maybe AC: Origins?

played all the bioshocks??

I've played The Witcher 3 for a bit and while it's okay I feel like this game just isn't for everyone. There is a heavy narrative focus and not as much time spent in combat as I would like from a game like this. I suppose it doesn't help that I find the main character to be so dull.

not much time in combat? dam but not of played much of it :o

Have you played any of the Dark Souls series?

They're punishing and unforgiving, but the gameplay is like nothing else in the action/RPG genre, and I love the way it relates its lore and builds a desolate world.

If you value open-world exploration and can overlook some rough edges, I'd also heartily recommend Gothic 3 (with the ultimate community patch, as Karik says) and Elex as well.

Prey is a great atmospheric action game with RPG elements as well.

As others have said, Divinity: Original Sin 1 and 2 are superb party-based RPGs. If you've not played any of the series, though, you could even start with Divinity 2 or earlier in the Larian series. Still all solid games.

I think there's a lot to be said for Drakensang as well for a low-fantasy swords and sorcery game.

Plillars of Eternity is a really good revival of the old style of Baldurs Gate/Icewind Dale isometric style RPGs.
