Recommend Games for 7 year old

Another shout out for the lego games, I love playing them with my son.

My son is also into Minecraft at the moment.

I have had a license for years when they were selling for like a fiver, I have just given him that because it was something I never really got into.

Portal 1/2. My 8 year old is lost to this for an hour every couple of days. Steam workshop is your friend if/when he completes them.

Call of Duty seems to be the popular game for children of that age. As is GTA5, warned my sister who bought it for her 11 year old about the drugs, torture, sexual and violent nature of the game but didn't seem fussed.

The PEGI rating isn't indicative of the game being aimed at that age group, it's a rating of the content within the game.

Of course PEGI rating are aimed at age group!

About PEGI?
What are ratings?
Age ratings are systems used to ensure that entertainment content, such as films, videos, DVDs, and computer games, are clearly labelled by age according to the content they contain. Age ratings provide guidance to consumers (particularly parents) to help them decide whether or not to buy a particular product.

Computer and video games are now enjoyed by millions of players throughout Europe. In the UK, 37 % of the population aged between 16 and 49 describe themselves as ‘active gamers’ (defined as currently playing games on a console, handheld or PC). In comparison, in Spain and Finland 28% of the population aged 16 and 49 are defined as ‘active gamers’(Nielsen report 2008). While most games (49%) are suitable for players of all ages there are many that are only suitable for older children and young teenagers. There are also some games (4%) that are made for adults only (over the age of 18).

The rating on a game confirms that it is suitable for players over a certain age. Accordingly, a PEGI 7 game is only suitable for those aged seven and above and an PEGI 18 game is only suitable for adults aged eighteen and above. The PEGI rating considers the age suitability of a game, not the level of difficulty.

PEGI is used and recognised throughout Europe and has the enthusiastic support of the European Commission. It is considered to be a model of European harmonisation in the field of the protection of children.

About PEGI?
What do the labels mean?
The PEGI labels appear on front and back of the packaging indicating one of the following age levels: 3, 7, 12, 16 and 18. They provide a reliable indication of the suitability of the game content in terms of protection of minors. The age rating does not take into account the difficulty level or skills required to play a game.

Your first example being I would not recommend Elite Dangerous for a 7 year old.

Your comment puzzled me.

Elite: Dangerous is suitable for 7 years old and over, nothing wrong with it contained violence that is not shown but is implied. It is no difference with Elite released back in 1984 I and my school mates aged 6 to 8 years old played Elite at my school when we cant played outside while it rain.

Would you recommend a 3 years old son to play Forza, Pacman, Super Mario Bros games or watched Tom and Jerry violent cartoon? It was no difference when I was aged 4 and many other children as young as 3 sat on small stools played Pacman, Galaxian, Space Invaders, Donkey Kong and other games on tiny tabletop arcade machines at Luck Star amusement in Blackpool back in 1980 when I cant played on arcade machines that was very taller than me.

Surprised to see Wiltor allowed his 8 years old son to played PEGI 12 rated Portal 1 and Portal 2 that are suitable for 12 years old and over, Portal 2 contained mild bad language.

Would you let a 7 years old son to played PEGI 12 rated games that contained mild bad language?

Realistically the average 7 year old without much gaming experience is going to have a better time with Portal 2 than Elite. Personally I wouldn't recommend Elite Dangerous as it's a much more complex game that needs a bit more dedication and perseverance. Portal 2 may have a little bad language but it's a much more immediate experience as well as being fun from the get go and full of puzzles, enabling a much more interactive/co-operative playing style.

You're missing my point, I'm not talking about the content of the game in regard sex, language, drugs, adult themes, etc. Have you played Elite Dangerous? I don't think a 7 year old would find that game interesting at all, hence my comment about suitability.

By your reasoning Stellaris for example is also PEGI 7 so should be suitable for a 7 year old child too? I don't think many 7 year old children would be interested in playing that either.

Terraria and Minecraft are my 9 year old sons go to games. To be honest, I really enjoy playing Terraria with him!

He also plays Roblox, most of the Lego games and Undertale. Also may be worth looking at Scribblenauts

Terraria is great. When a mate suggested the game, checked it out & said "wth is this? 1980's gfx?" & declined. Later got it in a sale, have hundreds of hours in it :D
Much excite about Terraria Otherworld.

So is minecraft too. I and my niece Sarah was in exactly same situation when we both were 7 years old don't have much gaming experience either just like any 7 years old children. I found Elite Dangerous very addicted and much more complex game that needs a bit more dedication and perseverance, there was no Elite user manual so I had to figured out how to play it by pressed all buttons on BBC Micro keyboard so I had Commodore 64 but Elite was not available for Commodore 64 until a year later in 1985. Had Elite for Commodore 64 on my birthday and I finally had more time to played Elite to gained gaming experience. Sarah found minecraft very addicted and much more complex game that needs a bit more dedication and perseverance, she asked me to bought a copy of minecraft and installed on my PC so she can learn to figure out how to play, how to control, how to mod it with helps from her school mates then 1 year on Sarah build better gaming experience with minecraft without read user manual because she didn't understood all new and very complex words so she not interested in user manuals or read English dictionary.

I absolutely would recommend Elite: Dangerous if 7 years kids love watched Star Trek and Star Wars or had tried played Star Citzen and Wing Commander games, my nephew Alistair was 9 years old loved space sims type games after played all Wing Commander games on PlayStation 1 and my sister PC.

Yes I played Elite: Dangerous on PC, Elite on BBC Micro at school and on Commodore 64 at home and played Frontier: Elite 2 on Amiga A1200.

I checked Stellaris on Steam, wow looked very cool, it reminded me of Star Trek: Armada and Star Trek: Armada II, had lots of fun with online multiplayer with my mates who are huge fans of both Star Trek and Star Wars. Hope to buy Stellaris at huge discount soon. My nephew Alistair loved played both Star Trek: Armada and Star Trek: Armada II with his mates online when they all was around 15 years old, if they were all 7 years old then yes they would play Stellaris.

I cant wait to play Age of Empires IV. :)
