Recommend me a restaurant in Nottingham

It feels like a piece of me is missing since "Pagoda" closed (out the back of Broadmarsh). That place was the best Chinese restaurant I'd ever been to in terms of quality of food.

They were supposed to repoen (signs are still on the window) but I think they've been a victim of the economy as the Chinese supermarket behind them also closed.

Flaming Dragon is good, but couldn't touch Pagoda at all.

For Chinese buffet, stay away from "Big Wok" - it's the McDonald's of Chinese buffet restaurants.

Never actually been to any of the indians, out to try one out one of these days.

I'd also recommend "Antalya" restaurant outside the corner house. Great food and friendly service, with lots of free extras like bread, olives, chillis, and an aperatif.

That whole block where the chinese supermarket was and the tyre garage etc is going to be flattened for the new Broadmarsh centre, which should have commenced construction two years ago but has been put back, and put back. It's apparently going to start this year or next year now.

[De Nero accent]" Get da fork outta hee!"[/De Nero accent]

Are you kidding me?
Its older than Nottingham itself, lol.

Its exaclty opposite the backstage exit of the Theatre Royal, and its inside walls are plastered with the photos of old stars who've visits the Mogul, like Keith Harris and Orville.... :)

Dude, it aint as fancy as Anillas (50yds up the road), but its food is top drawer.

Well, I just asked my colleague, a fellow Nottinghamite originally from India and he said it was awful lol. Explains why I didn't know it :p

Never been, hear a lot about it but that doesn't mean anything I guess. Places like that are more suited to parties/groups, it's not trying to be fine dining.

I just think if you're going to settle for that quality of food you might as well save yourself some money, stay at home and whack a load of food in the microwave!

I gotta agree about the Red Hot Buffet Shack, the food is dry at the edges and as it does chinese, indian and mexican food, it only does a few dishes of each and none of them are any good imho.
I went for my birthday on jan 11th. There were 5 chinese dishes available, 3 were a variation on thai curry (green, white and yellow) leaving sweet & sour pork and a chow mein dish!
Wonderful....not!

Only been to RHBS once with a group of people and found it extremely disappointing. Lots of the meal trays were empty and didn't seem to be getting refilled any time soon, and the majority of what was available were, as Jacko says, a variation on coloured Thai curry. One of the party ended up with food poisoning too.

Not going back there any time soon.

the restaurant that can offer quality food from various different parts of the world and get it right, is a restaurant that will make a mint.
RHBS do not get it right!

yup, thats Beedhams Butchers. Johhny Puzstai is the owner. Yeah sat morn is packed. I used to go in and rustle up some of grub in the back...whatever they were chopping up at the time i'd stick on the grill. His burgers and sausages are county-wide legends.
Me and Johnny go back about 20 years now. His meat really is the best.

Sorry to crash the thread, but does anyone know a really nice restaurant in Edinburgh. Going up there on sat with gf for the day but don't have a clue about the place. Like OP, also £20-£30/head - no cheap student places :D

A colleague and I stumbled across this place last time we were in Nottingham on a course about 12 months ago. It's pretty unspectacular from outside, but the food and service was great. Really enjoyed it and it was fairly cheap from what I remember.

Chino Latino is awesome. I really enjoyed eating there, service was spectacular, our waitress was very very helpful.
