Hi folks!

Summer is coming! I suspect a lot of you have air coolers and in the typical OCUK member fashion many of you have probably spent hours reseaching and reading reviews.

So dear members.. Recommend me an air cooler (before they all sell out!) for a large bedroom 30sm please.

Thanks :)

Thermalright Peerless Assassin, Cheaper than a NH D15, smaller, performs pretty much just as well.

See this older post.

What was the conclusion on LTTs recent video on coolers? I didn't watch all the way to the end but in the intro he said save your money and just buy what you can afford.

If I was building a PC or upgrading it would have to be the Noctua NH-D15 chromax just because it looks cool :)

I've had a little wap-12ea26 that I've used for the last 3 or so summers and it's been a lifesaver for my 20 sq. m room. Cost a little under £300 I think.

It's a bit noisy, but does the trick and I have my noise cancelling headphones on most of the time it's on, which dulls the noise to the point that it doesn't bother me (I usually have a fan on all rear round anyway).

It's 9k BTU, so and equivalent new model 9k BTU one would probably be good.

Thank you for that mate. My room is 31 sm and it is for me and my wife especially overnight when we are trying to sleep so not sure this will be sufficiant.

Yeah, I never ran it when asleep, but usually in the evening hours before bed to fill the room with cool air. I'd then shut it off before going to sleep and make sure the doors and windows were closed, even if the house/brickwork itself was hot, the fresh batch of cool air usually means I get a decent nights sleep.

Without an externally located unit I doubt any of them would be suitable while you sleep, but I could be wrong.

Looking at the figures in Russinating's link, you probably need closer to 12k btu for 30 sq m. though

Do you have to have a pipe running out the window for yours?

Yeah, most proper (indoor) air conditioning units come with an extending and compressing flexible conduit. As by their very nature they generate heat in the process of creating the cool air that needs to get pumped out of the room, so you must evacuate this somehow.

Check the specs for any unit your looking at for the conduit length. You can then get something like this seal kit for best cooling performance

A quick search on amazon seems to suggest you can pretty easily get longer air conditioner vent hose kits. TBH these look similar to my dryer hose vents. The stock vent that came with my unit is a very solid expanding and contracting plastic though, not like a thin plastic hose with metal internal frame, prone to ripping.

Do you have to have the pipe running out to a window? Does it fit all windows? How long is the pipe? My window is at least 1.5-2 meters away from where the bottom of the machine would be.

Yes, they all do. See here for what I did: https://forums.overclockers.co.uk/t...e-glazed-panel-for-an-aircon-outlet.18971906/

If it was my own place I'd look at getting a double glazing pane cut and I may well do that as a replacement to the above too, I just needed a quick solution what with it being an Airbnb and leadtimes on glazers were 3-4 weeks+. That and the end of the attachment goes to an oval rather than a circle so I'd need to find a circular attachment or and kind of solution to that as well as it being sealable in the winter.
