Recommend me some trance?

Grrrr, did you get your decks?

Yep :D

Now don't get me wrong i'm terrible BUT even in the 3 or 4 hours play time i've had with them i've improved shed loads. Simply getting used to the speed of the jog wheel and sensitivity of the pitch slider is helping. One thing i've noticed above anything is that concentration helps A LOT, that might sound a bit obvious but well i'm not very good at concentrating :p

Was hoping to have a mix this evening but the family have god bloody x-factor on

Keep practising mate, it'll all click into place some day soon. When I started I was terrible, but one day it just clicked ... so stick with it and have fun!

John O Callaghan feat. Jaren - Surreal
Has anyone heard this yet?, it was on ASOT 382. I must admit it's rather intoxicating!

I heard it today and it did very little for me. I much prefer his more energetic stuff like his remixes of Mojado - Kaktus and Underworld - Cowgirl, they are superb

I recorded an hour long mix the other night and every mix was spot on*, i was well chuffed :D

* well, give the beginner a little allowance here and there :p

Well..

- Adjust the pitch to roughly the right percentage (plus or minus 0.7% for every 1 bpm)
- Nudge the tracks in time
- If the track goes out of sync and you have to rotate the platter left (slower) to get it back in time then decrease the pitch a little
- If the track goes out of sync and you have to rotate the platter right (faster) to get it back in time then increase the pitch a little
- Rinse and repeat!

Nah I know how to beatmatch mate :p I meant like whats your style like when I'm mixing I play one track in both ears tap my foot and play the other in the headphones then adjust it, normally get it right within about a minute :)

Ahh, sorry i misunderstood!

First off it's worth saying i like to mix tracks as soon as possible to keep the energy going - usually with about 2:30 left to play. Beatmatching is done entirely with headphones on, then headphones just through 1 ear for the start of the transition and when i'm confident the tracks aren't going to fall out of time i lose the headphones and concentrate on the mix.

Since getting the CDJs i've very quickly learnt that you need to be pretty sure of your next 2 or 3 track as well as the one you are about to play. Nothing worse than hearing a track come near its end when you've still not chosen the next one!! I usually just pick out 4 or 5 CDs i'm likely to play from my big cases then pick from then when the time is right and add to the pile when i get the time.

Lastly - bass switches, love 'em :D

I love the headphone cueing on DJM600's. Tis wonderful! I do pretty much what Grrr does when beatmatching.

Just knock it straight up to roughly what the other tunes BPM is, then fine tune it there. Not too hard really. Got really used to doing it on CDj1000's but now I dont have access to any anymore and I can't afford my own!

CDj400's are lookin most likely!

Does anyone do it the way I see some Hard Dance DJ's do it with one ear in the Headphone and the other in the Monitor? I tried it once but it echoed slightly and was'nt a %100 matched. And Grrrr, Bass switches are great fun with Hardhouse ;)

Totally depends on the set up.

If there is a monitor loud enough in the right place, then I will tend to only play the new track through the headphones and match against the monitor with my uncovered ear.

House parties and stuff where the sound isn't so loud and there tends to be more background noise with people chatting and stuff, I'll beatmatch totally in the headphones.

I only listen to what im brining in through headphones and the current track through the monitor. If theres lots of nose etc ill whip my headphones on not to macth but just to check.
