Hello there,

After many years I'm going to have to stop using Kaspersky can anybody recommend a suite of anti virus software.
Shame really, as I really like some of the features including safe website pluggin.

Normally just use windows defender but thought I’d try but defender (paid) again

And it picks up lot more, in terms of browsing this forum it’s picked people’s digs with possible dodgy links or insecure links and hidden them

As well as has blocked even more tracking on top of my pihole

Firewall has been handy as found some games trying to reach out without consent for single player stuff

Tried bit defender in the past and didnt get along with it. I use windows defender at the moment, may have to give Bit Defender a go again

I can recommend Eset Internet Security, been using it since years on my gaming pc and laptop. Has a very sleek interface, all the usual antivirus bits plus a firewall.

It also blocks access to malware/malicious websites (which I find quite helpful on top of my local AdGuard DNS Sever) and a dedicated browser window protection mode for banking/financial websites (which I turn that off as it doesn't seem necessary).

Thanks I'll have a look at that.

Interestingly out of curiosity I was checking out the last AV Comparative performance test results and Defender ranked poorly for various criteria that would impact general use in Windows, file and application running, installing stuff, compressing/extracting etc:

I've used Bitdefender Free before and had no issues with it, but just always ended up going back to Defender after reading news reports on some AV packages having definition updates that flagged false positives for system files resulting in issues etc (not related to Bitdefender of course) so for peace of mind I went back to Microsoft and left it be.

Now I'm considering going back to Defender Free again as since the last time I used it, Defender has been added with more bulk, more protection features that use more CPU resources.

I'll go back for a few days and see if I notice any performance difference like Windows logging in, installing games, running apps first time etc.
