Wow, look, a software thread that isn't about Vista! :p

I'm currently looking for some backup software to allow me to backup files to an external HDD.

Ideally, I'm looking for the following features:

  1. Scheduled automatic back-ups
  2. Back-up to a regular, readable format (i.e. if I backup a mp3, it stays in mp3 format on the external HDD and not as some kind of archive file)
  3. Ability to backup my website via ftp or ssh

Any recommendations? I'm not too fussed about point 3, if there's a cheap and reliable option for points 1 and 2.

Could the backup software that ships with Vista do all this? :D

I used Acronis with xp and the restore worked 100% all the time every time, ive used the vista version (10 i think) once and it again worked perfectly. Its a very good bit of software. 100% recommend.

A nightly task schedule combination of both Acronis TI & robocopy for me, does the job fine.
Acronis does back up in an image format, which is quite easy to navigate and use.
But... I also still use robocopy for my Outlook .pst and other stuff that I would prefer to have backed up in its native file format.
Can't comment if Acronis meets your needs for a website backup though.

I got true image today in anticipation of getting a new hdd to clone my windows drive to tomorrow - had a quick look through true image and it's pretty nice. I've used GHOST v9 before and liked it but heard bad things about GHOST 10 so got True image this time round. ***** review of it is good too.

I shall let you know how the software performs on Monday eve after I clone over :p

I managed to successfully clone my OS from my old PATA onto a SATA Raid 0 array with Acronis :)
I was rather surprised as I thought it wouldn't work.
