Recording game footage need some tips

had a play with msi afterburner and whilst the video quality is good the files are huge

30 seconds of gameplay came in at over a gig, not ideal if we plan on doing 15-20 minute videos :(

and that was recording at 720p any suggestions?

lol thats small :p

mine in fraps are close to 5 gig per minute :D

if you serious about recording get more hds and dont record the game from the same drive you using whatever to record with.

surfer if you want quality you have to have some trade off . fraps and dxtory are best. set them up right though and you wont have many issues.

Seems quite a performance hit too

Fps down about 60% in world of tanks. Is this a gpu or CPU issue with the recording or a mixture?

Ive been experimenting with capturing game footage, two different games captured using the same Afterburner settings for roughly 2 minutes. One video is double the size and bitrate of the other :confused:The larger game video file had sweetfx running when captured but would that make any difference?

Handbrake is amazing though, reduced a 1.1GB video down to 200MB and a 650MB video down to 73MB using stock settings, without any perceivable loss in image quality.

Now I've got a much faster internet connection, I aim to record & upload @ 1080p. The thing is, I can't see an option for that in afterburner?

Edit : triple damn and a side order of damn for the weekend! Ignore. :D

tbh instead of messing if you not getting fraps or dxtory just use shadowplay. literally no one uses msiafter burner.

My son is the same, wants to be the next Stampyfaceache.

He uses Raptr with his 270X, seems to work pretty well, the qulaity isn't on par with my Shadowplay stuff but he doesn't notice.

Might be worth a shout, also gets your in game points and things, someone on here told me about it and I was impressed.

I record all my videos with Fraps, well PC games anyway and then i edit and render in either Sony Vegas Pro or Adobe Premier. Create big files but good quality recording. Been doing YouTube for 4 Years here.

I've only just started doing it, but I'm really enjoying learning about the various types of software. Do you have a link to your channel? :)

Most of this is recorded using Mirillis action. Some 30FPS, some 60FPS, always really down to whether my PC can run it at 60FPS as Mirillis is always happy to record at that.

I use OBS whenever I record. It took me the best part of an afternoon to finely tune the recording settings to get the best quality/performance trade off.

I was the same with OBS but still some of my recordings are really good and some are very pixellated using the exact same settings, increasing the Bitrate which is what everyone seems to recommend actually makes things worse for me so I'm at a loss as to what to change... :p
