Red Bull to quit F1?

Yeah one of the main reasons from the Renault side for fueling this spat is that RBR tried really hard to avoid any recognition for the 8 championships being attributed to Renault.

When RBR are were winning it was all because of their uber amazing car, yet now there not its all the fault of the rubbish engine.

I'm totally with Renault on this one, they have treated RBR like a factory team and in return have been subject to a public scathing by a team that thinks they are 'better than them'.

Renault's reputation in F1 is outstanding. Red Bull have been around for all of 5 minutes and now they think they're bigger and/or better. Please!
Only Honda and Ferrari have won more in the last 30 years....

But then reputations don't mean a lot in the here-and-now. Just ask BMW

Do Honda have an exclusive deal with McLaren? This article on James Allen's site has a paragraph saying, "He said that if Red Bull found itself without an engine partner were Renault to quit F1, then as neither Mercedes or Ferrari would supply them, they would have to leave as they would be unable to compete."

I know Honda aren't exactly competitive right now but unless VW/Audi come into the sport or BMW make a return then RBR have to persuade Mercedes, Ferrari or Honda to supply them. I'm guessing Mercedes wouldn't give RBR their engine and neither would Ferrari want to power a rival. With Honda only having one team to get data from surely they'd love to have a second team, if their agreement with McLaren lets them!

Unless Honda are suitably unimpressed that McLaren have been overly aggressive with packaging or cooling, then I can only imagine they feel they owe an awful lot of loyalty to them - whether that extends to exclusivity in a top team I have no idea of course, but I struggle to believe McLaren will be anything other than the works team for a few years yet - so long as it comes good.

Loyalty in F1 though? Hmm. Still, Honda have to be the most honest player in F1, given they flatly refused to exploit the reliability rules to catch up in power in the V8 days. I can see a Manor or Force India deal for 2016 though.

Red Bull are threatening to leave, but who are they threatening? The other teams couldn't give a damn, and Renault can't just stick a go faster stripe on it, so they can only be hoping Bernie can bang some heads together. Their hand is that they hold the keys to 4 cars on an already sparse grid, which is a potentially huge problem for F1, but you have to feel not enough for Mercedes and Ferrari to say "oh, we're so sorry you've ****ed us off, here's a competitive engine". Honda is probably their only chance in a customer deal.

Regarding Toro Rosso potentially being taking over by Renault... why is anything thinking that's possible? The Red Bull and Renault hierarchy have been holding daggers to each other's throats so far this year, so why would one sell to the other out of anything other than desperation, and of all the things Red Bull are desperate for, gifting their junior team to Renault and losing their works status won't be too high on their list.

Apart from Mercedes letting Williams have their engines when was the last time an engine supplier powered two TOP teams? I'm thinking 1995-97 when Renault powered Williams and Benetton.

I do agree that if Honda supply another team next year it'll be a lower end team so as not to compromise McLaren's work status.

Audi have repeatedly said that they will not enter F1 in the current format and Honda have said recently that more teams using their engine would not help http://www.autosport.com/news/report.php/id/118195?

Honda already power a lower end team.

Not just F1 either. Honda got steamrolled in the Indycar race, Marquez flopped in MotoGP, their ARX-04b was bad enough that the 2014 car was an improvement, and SEAT beat them in TCR. Yeah, bad start to the year all round...

What's the point repeating they will quit? we all know they are stuck in F1 till 2020. Unless someone buys them out.

Being bought out is how any non skint/crap team gets out of F1.

The "they are tied to 2020" line means nothing. Red Bull just own the team that's committed to 2020, theres no reason they can't sell it.
