Red Dead Redemption 2

What graphics settings do you think I could run at 1440?

I've heard this game is a bit of a resource hog and poorly optimised

check out the digital foundry videos for good settings etc. They come to the conclusion that the game is not poorly optimised if you are sensible with settings.

Hate the way it forces you to walk around really slowly in your camp.

Only played an hour or two but movement and shooting is painful.

Having to click to chamber the next round in the revolver/rifle is weird, doesn't seem consistent either, so you're never sure if it'll fire when you click. Unless I'm doing something wrong.

I'll have a look, thanks :)

So finally sorted out my GFX issues.

I have been having terrible performance with both DX12 and Vulcan since the Moonshine update.
Stutter on Vulcan due to frame time issues and DX12 just being rubbish.

I have rolled back my drivers to 441.08 which were the game ready drivers back in November. (not as simple as it used to be)
Looks great setting are back to medium high and

Can start playing it again.

Ive not really seen much performance change between any of the driver updates tbh

On level 4 and went into the post office to collect some mail. Left my horse outside then called it. Next thing I hear a nay sound and the horse is dead on the railway tracks with the train passing bye in the distance lololol. As it was White Arabian I exited the game pronto and upon restarting she was there

Definitely need to update my gfx card from my old 270x.

I can play the game with high settings on a decent res and it's playable but you can really see a difference between riding looking at the horizon and riding looking down at the floor :D

Also, I get random occasions when the game goes black and I have to alt+tab back in but the res no longer fits on the screen and I have to change the res for it to work properly.

I've been riding around a few times and I've seen a few horses and animals just drop down dead.

I was sat in camp one time and my horse was loose, he wandered over to the fireplace, stood on it. Promptly caught fire and burned to death. Dumb beasts !

You can revive the horse though with the horse revive. Also when it does doesn't it go back to your stable?

I must be nearing the end. Quite a way into chapter six now.

It's been a fabulous gaming experience, but it does feel time for it to draw to an end after 90+ hours. I'm sure I'll keep my online character going, though.

Some things have been consistently annoying, though, and one in particulalr almost led to me quitting my session in frustration last night. The damn weapon switching! I have set weapons to be equipped to all available slots in the gunsmith (dual Schofields, bolt-action to shoulder, semi-auto to back). Yet, whenever I start a game I have no guns on my shoulder or back. <sigh> fine, okay, I'll manually set them to this configuation when I'm on my horse for like the 500th time.

And then I get a cutscene before a mission starts and I come out of it with a totally different weapon on my back and nothing on my shoulder! I don't want to use my repeater, goddammit! If I did I might have selected it at least once in the last 70 hours or so!

It's a constant toss-up as to which weapons I'll end going into a mission with, it feels like. As I have my clear favourites, this is irritating.

I've found it a few times I've got off my horse having my repeater and shotgun/rifle equipped to having nothing, and entering missions with just pistols as well. It's a real pain in the backside.

A few niggles for me have been committing crime even while wearing a mask and then having a bounty put on me, or the mask being worn before a cutscene only for it to disappear after and not noticing until you're wanted :(

Yes, it's especially bad when you end up with pistols only and you have enemies at mid- to long-range.

I think the bounty system depends on more than just the mask, though. I believe you also need to change outfits and possibly horses to one you've not recently been seen in in that area to make sure you can't be identified.

I also had a few times I randomly lost honour just whilst riding around. No idea why.

And sometimes I can control my horse perfectly fine using mouse-look and movement keys; other times I can't stop her walking around in ever-decreasing circles for a minute or two.

Then there's trying to surrender when I have a bounty - sometimes I can do this perfectly easily, other times not at all. I presume there's some reason for this, but it's not very clear, and the option to surrender is there, but sometimes only becomes selectable for a fraction of a second and then it's shootout time apparently!

The scope and cover controls seem a bit fussy too. I often find myself scoping in and straight back out (or vice-versa), and I have many times I am trying to look out from cover but Arthur won't target enemies properly (this might be worse because I play in first-person, tbf).

Can't remember another game I like so much yet also had so many annoyances with!
