Red Dead Redemption Thread

Ah yeah forgot thats what its called. Did that the other day. Bloody hard with expert aiming and 50 lawmen after you. I just hid in the corner of my room at the saloon. Ended up with like 50 dead bodies on the floor :D Really slowed the old 360 down :)

Had this for about 3 days now, put about 9 hours into single player and 3-4 into multiplayer. First impressions were fantastic and the story line and mission structure are well written and varied. However, have started to notice a few cracks. Fair amount of bugs and visual hiccups. I think the scope of this game is beyond what the 360 can achieve. This on a next gen console would be fantastic, smooth frame rate all the time, the terrain would have many more polys as well reducing the amount of bugs and glitches. This is probably the first game in a couple of years apart from a co-op shooter that I will finish the campaign on as the world really draws you in and it is a hell of a lot of fun to play.

Played multiplayer with a friend and have to admit am quite disappointed. There really isn't much to do and every player you encounter wants to kill you! Also the combat isn't accurate enough to have a decent competitive side.

Don't get me wrong I think the game is fantastic but I get the feeling its stretching this gen a bit too far.

Hi guys,

I was running some errands in town today and thought I'd pick up Read Dead Redemption while I was out- it's out of stock everywhere. What was amazing was that Cex were offering £52 for trade in or £60 store credit. Madness.

On the way home I picked up the last copy my local Asda had in stock. The temptation is, of course, to take it straight in for trade in and make a profit!

Just got the game too lazy to go through 27 pages, but is anyone else randomly having sound not working?

I've been doing a few missions with the sherrif and my sound stops for effects like gun shots walking noise speech etc. But in the cut scene it works? and then after a while all sound works again.

Played over 40 hours and never had any sound bug out.

Any way to tell what breed of horse you're riding, or currently have hitched?

I'm having a hard time telling the difference, I really want to find a replacement Kentucky Saddler, a cougar killed my last one

(I know the colour is the giveaway) Some sort of picture guide would be nice

Connection issues on PS3 version is just unbearable. Pretty pathetic. Can't get the online invite system right so pretty pathetic rushing game out without fixing major glitches and problems.

Poor Rockstar, Poor Sony.

I'm still mostly enjoying the game and love the setting but monotony is starting to kick in now (I'm in Blackwater, just done a few missions there). Every mission boils down to either "go here and kill everyone there" or "go here and kill everyone along the way". This is compounded by the setup for nearly every story going along the lines of:

John: Tell me where {insert name} is
Random: I'm finding out but in the meantime can you help me
John: I've done enough, stop messing me around
Random: I'm not I promise
John: Oh okay then, what do you want me to do?

I suppose GTA has the advantage in that it can give you modern cool stuff to play with which spices things up but it still feels like they could have done more with the story missions. The encounters are boring once you have done each type (of which there only seem to be about 4) and I stopped using my horse and moved to fast travel a long time ago.

Don't get me wrong, it's still a really good game but I think some of the review scores are based on the first 4-5 hours before the repetition and flaws (bugs, cover system, aiming, etc) start to show themselves more.

Fingers crossed, the last hour or two will deliver some twists and drama that will cover up the weaknesses in the gameplay and end on a high note!

Game hasn't grabbed me like I thought it would, and although most fights are very easy, the ease at which you can die is pretty frustrating at times. Also think it's a tad dull in terms of what's going on in the game world.

Still good, but IMO doesn't warrant some of the near-perfect review scores.
