All these head to heads have got to me. I've been looking forward to this game for such a long time, and it pains me to think I'm getting a lesser version just because I own a PS3. So I ventured into one of those purple stores...

I didn't realise that they now sell second hand consoles; they had some pre-owned Xbox bundles, starting at around £140. I enquired to the manager about any other deals he may have...

He had an XBOX 360 Elite (black) with no hard drive. One controller, power cable, console. The old owner had, for some reason, taken the HDD out and sold back the console. The manager had to technically sell it as a "core" console, however being an elite it still had HDMI and a wireless controller.

The damage: £90

And yes, it works.

Wireless controller and HDMI aren't what makes it an Elite, that's the larger hard drive and black paint job.

HDMI is in every 360 console now, new that is.

Ah, I see! Well, I don't need the HDD right now. I'll see how loud the console is tomorrow. I can easily pick up a hard drive for around £20.

That's what they told you I bet they split the console to make more. I doubt they would take an elite with no hdd, they wouldn't take a ps3 without the scart block when I was there the other day!

I can't believe that someone in this thread has gone out and bought a 360 purely because the 360 version of RDR has better graphics...

That's an expensive game. Not to mention in 6 months you'll probably not even still be playing it.

God I hate all this "Pre-order and enlarge your manhood" rubbish. Its getting a bit silly. Especially with different unlocks if you buy from other companies.

People brought pc's just to play quake2, others for CS.. End of the day he now has the best of both worlds.

Why is everyone acting like the PS3 is complete garbage?

PC gamers still buy games their computers can't max out and enjoy them just fine.

Exactly. There's always a tipping point.

Heavy Rain & FFXIII was enough for me to finally get a PS3. Why not RDR.

So was FFXIII. It all adds up if a game you've really been after for a long time plays better albeit to a small degree.

Yeah and one is better. The "who cares about the graphics" argument is subjective. Some people care more about visuals than you. I'm quite a purist when it comes to visuals, always tinkering with settings/levels etc. You are not, so you can't understand the thinking. Not everyone rationalises in the same way.

It is because of RDR I have decided to buy a 360, yes - but this gen still has a long way to go and there'll be plenty more multi-plat games over the years that are better on one console than the other. For £90 I now have the choice - forever.

Regardless, I'll be happy when my PS3 version comes tomorrow, it's hardly as if someone is going to be sat next to me playing the 360 version going "Wow I have 20% more foliage than you"...
