Red Dwarf XI and XII

Yeah I really enjoyed X. It gets constantly slated by people who refuse to acknowledgment anything after about series 4 being any good, but that's unfair. X went back to what made it great, basically 4 guys being pratts on a space ship.

Can't wait for this.

Exactly it reminded me a lot of the first 2 seasons and I was happy to get some Rimmer Lister scenes every episode :D

Yay! :D

I still say that Series 8 is better than most people remember. For the most part, it went back to the tried and true recipe of Lister trapped with Rimmer. Just this time, in a prison deck rather than just in the middle of nowhere.

7 is still probably the worst series, but still has a few good moments throughout.

Back to Earth mini series... yeah....

I think 7 was better than 8 personally. If you accepted the change to a more story driven sci fi comedy then it was really good at it. 8 was ok but the comedy was just a bit...off.

Not sure how i feel about new RD, i mean i love the guys and the show but my fav series was 1 and 2 and 3 to an extent.

What made me like it was the cheap sets, the comedy between lister and rimmer. The cat being how he was in s1 and 2 and kryten well he is just gold whatever he does.

Nowadays they try too much with getting ratings with fancy sets instead of just basic ones that s1 and 2 did so well. Yes s10 looked good but i didnt like the fancy stuff it ruined the bunk area i reckon. I think they had more variety of sets when it was cheap compared to fewer areas they showed due to the cost and look of the modern series that they do now.

Krytens masks are lookin stranger. I mean, the new promo pic looks really strange. Im sure they did it to help Robert feel more comfy but i really like his older masks more and suit.

Cat was dumb, shallow, self interest etc i loved that about him in the earlier series, i think as he grew more capable as in piloting the bug and such in them series he became less of a cat person. I dunno how to explain i mean he is great but it feels they keep trying to make him more intelligent and have him do more compared to earlier series.

Rimmer is great but i wish he had his older hairstyles, its a lame thing to hang up on but if he just had a good wig or somit on id have enjoyed him more in the last series it would have made him look a bit younger i reckon. Lame i know but ah well he is still mint at rimmer, chris i mean.

Lister i dunno, hes good still but lacking his boyish behavior from past series. He is more grown up now in the new series and i think its a shame. Well, he was mint in the dad episode i thought that was great and more like how i thought he was in earlier series. Bumming around etc.

Love RD will always watch it, have been re-watching the old ones recently too. I just hate how they are getting older and the sets are getting modern and they arnt how they used to be in the begining. I miss that. I also think the writing has suffered a bit over the years. Was much more funnier back in the day and i struggle to laugh as much as i used to with new episodes.

Im really lookin forward to the new ones but i hope they are better than the last series. It was ok the last one, but lacked any classic episodes where i want to watch and rewatch.

I think the 2 i liked most from last series was lemons as it was off ship which i normally dont like but with the new sets i thought it was a nice change and i thought the jesus thing was funny. Wasnt the guy that did jesus play david jasons nephew in the new open all hours? If not well he reminds me of him as was just thinking that. Anyhow. Next one was the dad episode. Hated pre (sp) tho but liked the whole son dad part of it.

Id love to see kachanski back, either of the actresses tbh as both were good.

More of the old crew coming back would be cool as well as i really didnt like s8 at the time it came out but ive grown rather fond of it also the production values while they were better than s1 and 2 i thought they were pretty good and not so different compared to the last series sets. Still prefer s1 and 2 tho, classic, cheap and all they needed. Tho i do think s8 had too many 2-3 parters in it and should have had more individual story episodes.

Oh and PLEASE bring holly back, either of the hollys will do they were both mint. Its not the same without holly.

Kinda wish the BBC still produced it. Might have made it more like old dwarf.

Series 6 for me. Gunmen of the Apocalypse, Rimmerworld (was in audience), Emohawk Polymorph II etc. Its what I based our Fan Fiction mini movie on. Also Series 8 has a spot in my heart but only the DVD as they put a bit of our movie on the extras disc. About 10 seconds but better than nothing ! :)

Gutted I just missed out on the audience tickets for this new series too. Used to go to Dimension Jump Conventions and I think my brother still holds the record for the most consecutive wins at the fancy dress competition. (he went as Kryten, Curry Monster and a Bazookoid in the last year we went)

I do hope this series continues on in quality.

Like most teenagers in the 80's I spent most weeknights flicking between BBC2 and Channel 4 looking for boobs after 9pm.

I can still remember stumbling across the first episode of Red Dwarf and being absolutely captivated from the very beginning, the opening shot was simply awe inspiring. It was then a weekly ritual to discuss it at school the next day. Six episodes was not enough and the wait between seasons far too long.

Season 2 episode "Thanks for the memory" was everything that was great about the show for me before it fell to villain of the week type antics. I probably still have the first 5 series on video somewhere. Maybe time to rebuy on DVD.

If you got the vhs tapes id defo keep em as they have footage and remastered bits in that, the dvds do not which is a shame.

I had a vhs of polymorph once i dunno where it is now tho and that had a ending where it showed the 2nd one and it said it died as it morphed into something that lister or someone never would have touched, clean kegs or something i dont remember but thought was funny and was a shame it wasnt in the dvd.

Ah just looked and found it on utube.

Wasnt anything great in the remastered version on vhs but it was more funny that just a duplicate lister grinning at the end i thought.

Can't disagree with much you've said Skeeter - still, every season produced, 1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 6, 7, 8 and 10 have some great stuff, some not as strong but it's still a great show overall.

Norman Lovett was the definitive Holly - his best performances were in The End and Queeg.

I've been into RD since it first came out and grew up having to wait for series to be released. The classic stuff is the best (S1-6) but the newer series (7, 8 and 10) just didn't seem to have those classic episodes such as Queeg, Polymorph, Backwards, White Hole and Gunmen to name only a few.

Either way I believe given this will be the first series without BBC involved, things will be a bit different and I suspect from what I've read it will be slightly more Americanised due to expanding market.

It is the same guy.
