Red Light district lighting

I have always had a fondness for the red lighting effect in the red light districts around the world.

How can I achieve that in one of my rooms? I have done a quick google search for red light bulbs and what not but I'm not even sure that would give the same neon look. Anyone any ideas?
 
The neon look would be because most of them are using neon lights. :p

I would guess that the walls inside the rooms are painted white or a light colour to maximise the reflected light.

My Question: Are you thinking about turning one of your rooms into a 'shop' then? lol
 
I actually had this for a while and its chuffing awesome. It started as I threw a jagermeister neckerchief thing obtained from one of the shots girls onto my lamp and it plunged my room into warm orangey redness. Kept it like it for a while and quite enjoyed it, makes the whole room feel warm and cosy.

Ofcourse I'm sure it got some funny looks from outside though!
 
You could get a (or a few) Philips Living Colour lights:

I've got two in one room where the walls are painted white, you can literally make the room any colour of the spectrum you like, including 'Sleaze Zone Red'.

It's amazing. I regularly love going to seedy areas of London, porn shops, fetish clubs and taking pictures. I want to do the same with my own place. Just replace every light bulb with a red one, can't be hard.

The ONLY problem you'll get is people thinking you're a brothel and ringing your bell for sex. Which is why I haven't done it.

Thank you, after looking at the videos on youtube I'm not sure they will be powerful enough to give that proper red chic glow at night but they are the closest thing I have seen to the desired effect.
