Q2 seems fine for me on Vista64, however newer versions of the NVidia drivers stop me selecting OpenGL

As for UT99 its fine on some of my PCs and jerky as hell on some others... This again is often down to drivers and which ones Im unsure of however, Im just re-installing XP64 onto a PC right now and UT99 played awful on it last night and it was great just before I reinstalled so no doubt that I am about to find out why on that PC later today.

Most people playing online use R1Q2 which works great with windows 7... Online anyway:D Not sure about single player but surely nobody would still be interested in Q2 single play? ;)

There's also another download with a modified PAK that some of the pros use (Purri) with brightskins and other textures.

God I used to love Quake2 multiplayer. I think the late 90's was a golden-age for online gaming... The community back then was fantastic and huge. I used to play in the savage ctf league and ukccl in my clan, as well as on the barrysworld servers playing mainly freezetag. Ah good days.

Now I just have the odd game on Q3Live occationally, mainly because it's just so easy to fire up the web browser and play.

loved this game so much i started a savage league, course back in the beginning used to play on 56k dial up... my god the phone bills i used to rack up

ps

the forum in my sig is where a lot of old q2 ctf players hang, maybe some of the older players might remember a few of the fella's over there

memorys, this was the first real online FPS that got me hooked, it nearly wrecked my marriage :(

Wife would start watching the soaps at about 8 ish i'd nip online for a few maps of Q2 and next thing i knew it would be daylight out side and the next day was here, i'd sneak in bed and close my eyes but the game would still be going on inside my head it was realy realy weird .. :)

Railgun on The Warehouse map = OMG :D
Rocket launcher on DM1 the Edge = more OMG :D

Loved that game so much it was epic i even bought and made my first real PC around it, AMD K6-2 and a Voodoo 2 12 meg which was later upgraded to SLI  800 x 600 goodness :)

Brings a tear to my eyes thinking about playing those old maps all night long :)

I've only ever played quake 2 online once when I was dragged onto an RA2 server by an RA3 buddy back in the day. Wasn't too bad but QW will always have the special place in my mind :p (even though I was rubbish!). Still have some old screenies knocking about but some are 300x200 res so you might want to poke your eyes out :p

I remember those days very well. 16 hour straight sessions and £400 monthly bills were a regular occurrence. :D

Lol, ouch! I managed with the guy in flat upstairs to hit 400 quid for the quarterly bill. :p
We even installed ISDN and had a line each so we could have that joyous ping advantage (LPB!) ;)

Suprised this thread is still going :)

I'm throwing together a quake 2 server today or tomorrow, will post the IP. Maybe we can have a Q2 night? :p

Vanilla of course, no silly mods

Try this one. Still going strong after 10 years. :D Usually gets going after 5pm every day.

5) 10 minute map timelimit / High Scores board
6) Maximum of 12 players
7) Has Anticheat enabled
8) A good mix of old and new players.

Quake 2 was good and the start of big multiplayer FPS gaming in my eyes. However Quake 1 was/is better

Lies! I do love both but 2 does it for me in MP. Loving the original Unreal in single player on my netbook at the moment too. I remember this running at a crawl on my £1500 white box of junk PC and now it runs at 60fps on a £250 machine. I have so little time for PC gaming but my netbook just sits on my dining table, bluetooth mouse waiting for a 20 minute blast!
