Rediscovering my love for Quake 2

hi

q2 was one of my favourite games of all time . my lad was playing q3 last night and the graphics are still awsome . really impressive engine

cheers

Quake 2 is one of those games, along with UT Classic that I am happy ( A little sad too ) to say that has never at any one point, been left off any PC I have owned...

Even my Laptop had them on.

I must have played Q2 a hundred times and Im no better... Just quicker.

First time I played it, I think it took me a week, second time was 4 days, then it was one day... I recon even now I can complete it in 6 or 7 hours!

In fact... See you later... I will let you know...

I feel that most if not all the old games have better gameplay, Story & Length than the new ones.

This is 100% true.

They fill games up with visuals and so much effects that the game itself ends up being a pile of horse poo.

There is of course the arguement that you may hear that we are now spoilt for choice and there can be some truth in this, but only some.

Pong or Breakout anyone?

Where the hell can I get a good Rockman / boulderdash game from for the PC? Looks like I will have to try programming the PC now... Video Meanies... Oh god, Im going to start sulking now... Im off to find a C64 on the bay...

Quake 2 is a great game, however Quake 1 will always be better (than all the Quake series) In original mode, no gl crap, with CD music playing (which i have lost many years ago and cannot find again) :(

Quake 2 multiplayer is probably better though. Railgun skills required

Someone finally said it

Was always a quakeworld fan, q2 just seemed so slow in comparison. And no LG ! :D

While I certainly loved Q1 with a great passion, I never could get it to control as freely as I could Q2 and onwards...

Its been a fair while, but I never could get it to look up/down with the mouse.

That in itself was not a big issue until Q2 ( or it could have been UnReal? ) and then I realised how crippling Q1 was and I never went back.

If Q1 could have full mouse view then Id play it again but not without it.

we need a Q2 server!
bet we could find a P3 to run it on! then only need a 56k modem............

GL Quake was fantastic back in the day, really made my Power VR card shine.

Quake 2 CTF server tbh. Actually thinking about DM would probably make more sense, unless lots of people played.

edit: There are active servers still out there:

We could get one going, what sort of connection do you need to run a Q2 server?

I agree tbh, I stuck with QW myself.. But I did love using the Railgun the odd time I did play Q2.

FatRakoon, you know Q1/QW always did have full mouse view? +mlook in console, and youre laughing.

Also, for those on a Quake nostalgia binge.. Dont forget to check out Quake Live. Its still growing, and dam good fun.. Might be Q3 based, but as I never really played that online to any real degree its fun learning again.

I loved Quake 2, the memories are flooding back.

Also loved Q3A I played that loads online (and against Dreamcast users as well) :D

Was right blast, Q3 Live is also good as well.

We should organise a game. Can you do private servers on Quake Live?

NOOOooooo.....

"This program is incompatible with your version of Windows!!!"

OFFS!

Im going to have to knock up a Win 98 PC just for this now arent I?

Before I do... Anyone managed to get it to play in Win7-64 ?

I used to love a good game of Night Quake.

Sorry, that was a failure on many counts.

I am unable to do ... Well, anything?

I cannot make a DIR
I cannot mount my Quake CD
I cannot even use half my keyboard, more importantly, I cannot do a Colon ":"
Any tips?

I have also tried to look at the DarkQuake, but that wont go 64Bit Windows?

I did realise that I use Linux and so, I could simply throw some games onto that too, but in teh mean time... This DOSBOX thingy...
