Reducing sound carried through wall from TV

The Tannoy's are a no brainer at that price, assuming the sound is to your taste. Or get the Zu's I used to have a pair of Druids and they were great sounding and beautiful looking but a bit ungainly size wise.

Got the Tannoys delivered today. Can’t quite make up my mind on them. They’re a little taller than my wife would like but is happy to put up with them (this is before I add an inch or so for spikes)

My main issue is they really feel like they’re missing something. No sure if it’s because they’re brand new and need running in but they sound a bit muddied when there’s a lot going on. Particularly the greatest showman opener which my wife put on almost instantly. Any chance you could see if you get the same?

Maybe it’s because the other speakers I’ve demoed have been at a higher end (though I believe these retailed around £1000 initially) but it certainly feels like a step down.

Going to have a play with placement over the next few days then make a decision I think.

This thread (or what I read of it) cracked me up.

Bass from TV speakers (what bass!?!) travelling up the wall, so buys speakers with more bass to solve the problem.

Mind baffled.

You're welcome to come and listen to my tv if you want to see for yourself, but it seemed to be transforming the whole wall into a giant sub. You could actually feel it move slightly when the volume was turned up on certain scenes. By de-coupling the sound from the wall it's hugely more pleasant and whilst there is now more bass it's not boomy like it was.

I've also said many times that the biggest driver in new speakers was the increased benefit in sound quality for listening to music.

Played round with positioning again for the last hour. I’ve now pulled them further away from the wall and and it has kind of clicked into place. Think the additional use is helping too. Still not quite on par with the others but certainly closer.

I’ve ordered a pair of Audio Physic Classic 5’s which were a very good price which I’ve an agreement I can return if they don’t suit. These are a little smaller which I’d like but my wife now isn’t a fan of the black drivers (no racist) they just stand out more than the silver of the tannoys.

Annoyingly I’ve also been offered a pair of B&W 704 S2’s for a bargain price. Shows the margins some dealers have as ive always written them off due to cost. But now throws another option into the mix. I think these would’ve been my first choice at this price.

Tannoys went back on Saturday. Couldn't quite gel with them and whilst they got better when pulled away from the wall they still felt lacking compared to others i'd listened to. Whilst they were superb value, i think i'd have known i could've done better and always been on the lookout for an upgrade.

Ended up driving to Peter Tysons rather than posting to save a fair bit of cash. Had a chat with a few people. Funny how opinions change. One guy agreed with me on the Tannoys and said he'd never been a fan, and another guy pretty much told me i was wrong and said that speakers only account for 10% of the system and i needed to spend all my money on a better streamer/turntable.

He was heavily pushing a Linn streamer so obviously of the same school of though. Pretty much the opposite to my experiences.

Yeah it was. I think if id just tried them on their own I’d have been happy as they’re certainly a step up from my B&Ws. Just after heaving a few others I think I’d have always regretted it. Which is daft as I’ll probably spend double and certainly won’t get double the sound. Stupid diminishing returns.

Audio Physics turned up today.

They sound much better close up to the wall than the Tannoys which helps a lot and saves me having to keep re-positioning them when i want to listed to music. Imaging is superb and they sound very quick and tight. Looking forward to them getting run in.

I'm aware the TV unit is off centre in this pic. It's since been fixed!

Haha it's the floor. I've given up trying to compensate for it. It's so uneven that the speakers actually rock even with a small footprint!
