So I turned up at work today and out of the blue, the company has gone into insolvency and we were made redundant on the spot.

All this 1 day before pay day. We have been told we won't get paid tomorrow meaning we have all just worked for a month, for nothing.

Anyway, I would like to know if anyone else has gone through this and if they were able to get their last wages. A friend pointed out some info that says employees are top of the list when it comes to resolving company debts.

I am popping into the CAB Monday to have a chat with them but just wondered if there was anyone else about who knows about this kind of incident.

Cheers :)

Can be the case but it can be drawn out and I would certainly not hold out too much hope. Sorry for you. I found myself in this position in my first job ever and I never go any money but this was in 88 so maybe a great deal of protection has come in since then. Hopefully this will be work out for you.

Sorry to here that. CABS best bet.

In the meantime spend tonight sorting out your CV and after seeing CAB tomorrow go round the agencies in person and find some sort of job. even if it's just general work. Some money too pay bills is better than nothing.

Had this myself about 6 years, things may have changed but:

Employees I can assure you were NOT (emphasis on 'were' rather than 'are') top of the list when it came to resolving debts, in fact I know of at least 20 people that walked away with nothing and I myself only received about 10 days worth of pay, even though I'd worked about 20 days of the month.

Again, maybe a different ball game, but the employment services near me setup a special 'squad' to try and get people back into work asap (my employer was a call centre so had over 300 staff), and the CAB were on hand to answer any questions.

I do remember the company going into insolvency in April 2003 and I didn't receive final payment until about December that year, during that time there was lots of letters back from the insolvers keeping me up to date on what was happening with my monies owed.

Sorry to hear though, not a nice thing I know.

I have started the ball rolling, and I rang the Jobcentre, going in tomorrow to sort out my JSA claim.

Will be writing a CV tonight and yea, posting it about on some websites this weekend :)

Cheers for the input.

surely this would be illegal? They have to pay you for the work you have done.

If you get fired you get paid up to your last working day?

the company has gone into insolvency - it's not as simple as just being made redundant.

hm

I went through this before to - there is some protection for you from some government pot. Employee wages are honoured I think - depending on the circumstances.

There is some process you have to go through to apply for your monies though. If I remember ill update my post..

My best advice at this point is to get into that office and start taking things, and tell no-one.

I wish someone had given me that advice a few years back! We turned up and the doors were locked.

Just going thru the same myself, job no longer available, got my letter on Monday and find out next week.

Hoping to get it down to maybe part time as the guys here couldnt do the extra 40 hours I do a week between them as I do a bit of everything here. Also hoping that Im due a lot of backpay as I was underpaid for about 4 -5 years :/ fingers xd

Good luck on the pay and job front Paul

couldnt you all become a mob and strip the workplace of anything valuable like pcs monitors etc, printers and sell it to at least get something

Someone I knew did this, didn't get paid for the month because the company went bust. On the day, he just walked out with his desktop machine as some kind of recompense, so did a lot of other staff apparently including printers! Even the security didn't bother them as they were out of a job too.

Ooo not much good news for you here..

I found myself in your predicament about 4 years ago. It was also very close to payday (which was probably the reason for administration based on insolvency).

I was able to slightly over inflate my claim with the liquidators (as did all the others) and got paid out of company asset sales about 3 months later I think.

Foolishly we were allowed access to collect OUR belongings at the time - heheheheheheheeee!!!!!!!

A company I worked for went insolvent last November. I was in exact same position, came in day before payday to be told. Luckily I walked into a new job the very next day :)

The good news is the government insolvency firm (or something like that) will pay your wage if the company is unable to. Problem with this is it could take 4-5 months to get the money. Also, depending on how long you have been with the company you will also get redundancy pay (the minimum amount though), and pay for any holiday you had in lieu.
