10th gen, same design. New screen (Nano-texture like the XDR Pro screen??) looks interesting though?

Should have a 10 core i9/Non-texture screen with the middle graphics card here shortly, it will be interesting to see how it performs against the iMac Pro I have here (it's only the 8 core one).

Also they've dropped the 8 core iMac Pro so effectively just a price drop.

I'm vaguely disappointed on the same chassis design? Not quite sure why though! The bezels have never really bothered me - but perhaps I just like the shiny :):p

Same here, I've had a few now and I've never looked at one of them and thought to myself that the unit needs a redesign. I look at what's on the screen, I don't even notice the bezel.

It’s disappointing but should have also expected it. They’re moving to their own chips and this is likely the last Intel iMac. Makes no sense for them to redesign it. The redesign will happen when they move to Apple Silicon.

I'm not overly bothered by the bezels either....however I do think a redesign is overdue.

This spec bump though is not bad at all with some nice options for professionals - Nano Texture Glass and 10G Ethernet.
It's also nice to see the death of the Fusion Drive (still an option on 21" though) and the entire iMac line going SSD and a 1080p webcam at last, along with the Studio Mics and High Fidelity Speakers.

If this is spec and options available for the last intel based iMac, I'm really looking forward to see what Apple have in-store for an Apple Silicon based replacement.

Looks decent, design aside I think it will perform well. Not sure they have beefed up the cooling to run the i9 10th with a 5700 XT. Thing is gonna be cookin’

Out of interest, why? I'm not trying to be awkward but genuinely, what do you think needs changing?

Agreed. I had one when I specced an iMac with an SSD and a mechanical drive from new and I combined the two drives into a Fusion drive. In my usage case, it was a terrible decision despite the SSD portion being 250Gb. I ran it for a while and then split them apart again. I can't imagine how bad it must have been with the very small SSDs they ended up using.

That will be interesting to see, I hope ifixit get their hands on one and do a tear down.

To me it's much more about aesthetics than function, I do consider the current design quite dated and doesn't fit well with Apple's modern design language. I love my iMac though and consider it one of my best ever purchases.

Going back, iMac and Apple Cinema Display looked pretty identical. iMac has retained that design while the Pro XDR display has changed, and I think iMac will eventually need to move to that design, to mirror Mac Pro and the Pro XDR display.

Just noticed the ones we've got coming in are 1Gbe not 10Gbe. WHHHHYY! I'm going to throw virtual rocks at somebody tomorrow. With only 2 TB3 ports that's going to be irritating.

Specs we've got coming are:

i9 10 Core
Nano-Tech Screen
16Gb (We'll upgrade afterward....why they've not just ordered the base 8Gb is beyond me...although may have come down to delivery dates maybe?)
5700/8GB
GB Ethernet
512Gb SSD

Due Tuesday apparently. If there's any specific tests anyone would like me to run let me know and I'll do my best to sort.

Well overdue update but the upgrade prices are just £lol as usual, the iMac used to be relatively 'good' value but once you add on a few upgrades the price gets out of control. A 10 core/32gb/2tb/5700XT is £4500, absolutely nuts for what you actually get. It's £5k if you add on the glass.

£500 for the glass upgrade

£400 to go from 8 core to 10 core CPU

£200 to go from 8gb to 16gb RAM is just obscene

Another £200 to go from a 512GB to 1TB SSD, another £400 to go to 2tb

They just seem to be double that they really should be.

Only the base has always been good value. Upgrades have always been pretty poorly priced.

You can upgrade the CPU and RAM yourself (although you need to open it up for CPU).

Storage is user-upgradeable too but it’s a little tricky (you need an M.2 to Apple’s proprietary thing adapter, and not every NVMe drive works smoothly). However the SSDs are not some DRAM-less WD Blue stuff, they’re high-end with Apple’s own controller so price-wise they should be compared with high-end stuff.

Given the technical disassembly needed for anything other than RAM, you can’t really class CPU or storage as ‘user upgradable’. I’d also expect any warranty is also voided at this point.

I certainly wouldn’t feel confident opening up a machine like that and I have a fair amount of experience with disassembling computers and laptops.

Not nuts at all, the extra £2,500 on top of the actual £2,000 hardware cost is for exclusive access to MacOS which is unique so needs to be accounted for.

I had one of the original Fusion Drives 128GB/1TB in my iMac until late last year when the mechanical drive failed. It served me well and it was the right option for me at the time, but the thought of going full SSD was to tempting and you definitely notice the performance difference.

Waaah I really wanted a new design, but I suppose it’s inevitable that will only come with the new processors.

Other than the ugly LG Ultrafine 5K, are there any decent alternatives to an iMac 5K screen? Don’t think ultra-wides are my thing. Might just have to get another Mini (running a 2012 one w/SSD I put in and bumped the RAM up to 16GB when I got it).

I looked a lot for an alternative to the LG Ultrafine 5K, doesn’t exist.

The insane apologist attitude like this is just beyond comprehension.

Pretty sure it was sarcasm.

Bought 6 of the current gen iMac Pros earlier in the year and literally just set them up at work.
I knew this would happen :D any news on the new iMac Pro? Assume it's just around the corner.

They bumped the base spec to 10-core on the iMac pro, I'm not sure it will get any further love from Apple.
