Refusal to buy games because its not on steam

I'm surprised how stubborn people are with only wanting to use Steam. I knew there'd be a few people but I didn't expect this many.

I only buy games if they are on steam generally, unless it is something from a quality provider like blizzard in which case obviously i use battlenet launcher. Dont bother with anything on origin or uplay and really dont miss it as they dont produce what i would call good games anyway :P

Makes no sense to me. I can understand wanting all games in one place as a preference, but to completely miss out on a game just because it's not available on your one chosen launcher seems silly. Does it really matter what program you have to launch the game from?

Seconded.

Launching a game through a poor client is, while an annoyance, so minor that not to play a game you would have otherwise played as a result seems like an overreaction to me.

I really like the look of Farcry Primal, however with it being availbale only via uplay I will not buy it.

Anybody else feel the same? I only buy games that are available on steam. uplay is rubbish and origin is not quite as bad, but i would rather not buy games that are not on steam.

Nope. I prefer now to buy games away from Steam.

Let's just say that Valve and Steam are no saints.

So if there's something on GoG and on Steam, I buy it from GoG.

I now understand what people where saying all along - it's not a good idea to have one, completely dominant player like Valve/Steam.

doesn't bother me in the slightest. most of the clients have improved greatly. I certainly wouldn't deprive myself of playing a game I wanted simply because it was tied to a particular client. seems a bit nutty and hints at a 'cutting your nose of to spite your face' mentality

I dont see the point in not buying games if they are different platforms. All it takes is one shortcut to start/startmenu/desktop and its a double click and the launcher + game launches and away we go

I'd really rather not cut my nose off to spite my face if there is a game I want to play. Given a choice I would probably choose Steam but only to keep my catalog consolidated.

I'd rather have my games on steam but I decided when GTA V was released that I'm not willing to pay the premium where it exists, I certainly wasn't going to pay the extra tenner for that, and I purchased Witcher 3 through GoG for the same reason.

I really struggled to make this decision with GTA V but glad I did.

Real gamers just play the games they like or enjoy. This is becoming a ridiculous OCD fanboyism, just because its not Steam. If I like a game, I'll get it end of. I don't pledge an allegiance to any particular brand or system.

I like having all games in one place, but I wouldn't not buy from a place just because it isn't Steam.

What would happen in the event that Steam dissapears forever and the client no longer works? Sure it isn't going to happen but what would happen to our games then?

They'd be gone forever. You don't own the digital content according to the terms so in essence you're paying for lifetime usage with the lifetime being limited to your own life or the life of the steam service.

Not too fussed, I have Uplay and Origin installed too. I try to keep what I can to steam for ease of using one program for it but I've had no issues with either Uplay or Origin often downloading faster (I suspect due to their servers not being hounded daily like steams are)

If you can get a better deal by using Uplay or Origin and the software works functionally the same as Steam what's the problem?

Whilst I like the idea of all of my software being attached to one client (Steam), my personal preference for getting the best deal means I use all of the three main ones (Steam, Origin, Uplay).

I get the whole back story to Origin and Uplay butt hurts, but they are actually now pretty good. Obviously not in the same league as Steam. but no complaints here.

Will a Mod stick a Poll up?

I only buy from steam so am missing out on dozens of top quality, excellent games.
I love Gabe Newell and think having a monopoly on games DRM is a great idea.
UPlay, GoG, Origin & Battlenet all suck, Steam 4eva!
I'm a normal, logical human being and buy games I want to play regardless.

Ok, maybe not. Try:
I only buy on Steam so regularly miss out on great games.
I prefer to buy from Steam where possible but have other clients.
I buy whatever games I'm interested in, regardless of client and/or publisher.

I think it's ridiculous that people won't purchase a game that they really want to play because it's not on Steam. The end result will still be you playing the game, regardless of what client it's on..? Learn to enjoy the game itself and not what you'll be loading it from. Who cares if you'll be running it from Uplay, Origin or whatever.

Dont mind origin or uplay now that they are perfectly usable. I just think they need to get some good sales on like steam.

I think the point he was making is that when you install the game it installs uplay and when it runs it launches uplay, even if you buy and launch from steam, it still requires uplay

If that was what he was trying to say then I suspect that's what he would have said. What he did say was just blatantly wrong.
