While I can understand being a little bit annoyed at not having next day delivery, you've caused yourself so much extra drama and hassle over being impatient. Now you'll have to go through returning the order, getting a refund, checking to see when you're refund has been processed, etc...
Should have just sent an angry email at not having next day delivery. They would have probably sent you a goodwill voucher or a discount on your next shopping order.
If you are refusing the delivery you should not have signed anything just refuse to accept the parcel and that's it. It's then the couriers responsibility to return the item to the sender.
Not sure what you have signed but it's not something I have seen before tbh.

Why would you want to sign anything? I agree it helps the courier but that's not really the OP's responsibility. I would refuse to sign anything and just politely close the door. If there is no signature anywhere then there is no way to prove it has been delivered and the OP will get his money back.
Incorrect, you should sign to refuse it. The driver then actually gets paid for attempting the delivery.
That is with DPD anyway, other couriers may be different obviously.
Then the delivery guy is more likely to be annoyed that he doesn't get paid for the delivery.
If you then have a driver that is dishonest.... well who know's what happens to your parcel.
Why would you not just sign to refuse it? It makes no sense.
If you do not sign then there is no responsibility to you for the parcel. I personally would not sign anything tbh.
Following that logic then if the delivery driver is dishonest he has a copy of your signature to "sign" for it himself and then keep the parcel.
But this is the main reason I wouldn't sign...
