Refusing Package at Door?

Don't sign for it and tell the courier it should be returned to sender. I have done this before.

Whenever this happened to me with Amazon they actually encouraged me to refuse the package so that it would be sent back to them, so surely that should work no problem.

Have had to do it before where an order was sent out even after being cancelled 5 days before despatch, Told the driver it was sent it error and he fiddled around with the PDA and went back to his van. No issues whatsoever. This was DPD , don't know how other's deal with it.

While I can understand being a little bit annoyed at not having next day delivery, you've caused yourself so much extra drama and hassle over being impatient. Now you'll have to go through returning the order, getting a refund, checking to see when you're refund has been processed, etc...

Should have just sent an angry email at not having next day delivery. They would have probably sent you a goodwill voucher or a discount on your next shopping order.

I wouldn't be so annoyed if I was the only one that ordered one. What makes it annoying is that my friend who lives very close to me ordered one about 4 hours after me and he got his the next day. The idea was we would all spend Friday playing together, this would have been rubbish if I had to go round a mates house and take it in turns. It was kind of vital to my plans to get it on Friday.

Plus checking for a refund is easy, I can do that sitting on my arse :p

I signed for it to be taken back, on the machine it said 'sign for refusal' so it should be in the system, meaning it doesn't matter if the driver nicks it.

If you are refusing the delivery you should not have signed anything just refuse to accept the parcel and that's it. It's then the couriers responsibility to return the item to the sender.

Not sure what you have signed but it's not something I have seen before tbh.

Incorrect, you should sign to refuse it. The driver then actually gets paid for attempting the delivery.

That is with DPD anyway, other couriers may be different obviously.

You do sign to say you refused the item :)

Why would you want to sign anything? I agree it helps the courier but that's not really the OP's responsibility. I would refuse to sign anything and just politely close the door. If there is no signature anywhere then there is no way to prove it has been delivered and the OP will get his money back.

Then the delivery guy is more likely to be annoyed that he doesn't get paid for the delivery.

If you then have a driver that is dishonest.... well who know's what happens to your parcel.

Why would you not just sign to refuse it? It makes no sense.

Some of you lot are bona fide members of the tin foil hat brigade.

Just because you're paranoid, don't mean they're not after you!

DPD have a button on the device that says "Recipient refused delivery" I have refused quite a bit with them and have never been asked to sign anything.

If you do not sign then there is no responsibility to you for the parcel. I personally would not sign anything tbh.

Following that logic then if the delivery driver is dishonest he has a copy of your signature to "sign" for it himself and then keep the parcel.

But this is the main reason I wouldn't sign...

Right well the tracking status shows as 'Parcel refused'. Presumably not signing would have left the system in a bother.

There is no responsibility if you sign to refuse it. The driver has to press a button to say unable to deliver. He then does not get paid for it.

Errr yes that is why on the PDA it is very clear that you are signing to REFUSE it and not to ACCEPT it.

If you do not sign to refuse it then the driver will just think you are a **** tbh.

If you want a good reason to sign to refuse it then this should be it. The driver is at your address, he has the PDA with GPS to show he was there and could easily draw a squiggle for a signature and say it is delivered and then keep the parcel for himself. What is your arguement then? "Oh I refused it but I didn't sign anything"

Yeah ok.

DPD drivers are paid a salary, the chap that delivers to me says they get a bonus which they can exchange for vouchers.

I was talking to him about it when he lost his keys...:)
