How do you think it will turn out?

Though I am not opposed nor supportive of what he's doing, it does seem interesting.

His English bothers me.

What a tool. I bet she had a right laugh back at the office.

The Census Act is the law under which you have to give the information.

He should have filled it in with half truths if he cared that much.

He will be marked down as a firm refusal, which will lead to follow ups from more experienced people working on the census.

The person on the video was just a census collector who is supposed to be a friendly face who reminds and offers help to people who haven't filled theirs in.

She did very quickly mention the £1000 fine which is supposed to be a last resort, but she probably judged the situation correctly that there was no convincing this guy.

The funny thing is that people who are marked as firm refusals will be chased more aggressively than people who just procrastinate and end up not doing it. He is much more likely to get a fine now if he keeps refusing.

I somewhat empathise with the man in the video. I think the grounds for and operating of the census are dubious, and the fact that there's a £1000 fine being waved in people's faces just riles me even more.

From a privacy perspective I suspect the easiest way to deal with it would be to supply completely false information. I wonder how many forevers it would take for them figure it out?

I didn't like filling it out. I have better things to do, but it's illegal to not complete the form. If you want to live in the UK you accept the fact that you have to do it. However I don't think it's illegal to lie on it. It takes 5 minutes and a lot of things rely on them such as nhs.

Refusal to complete the census questionnaire is an offence under the Census Act 1920 and Census Order 2009, and could lead to prosecution and a fine of up to £1,000.

The Census Act 1920 requires Parliament to pass the order for it to become law. Parliament did so in 2009. It's law, he's talking crap. There's nothing about entering into contract.

The moron, yeah? Probably thinks he's taking a stand against 'the man', yeah? Due to an invasion of privacy, yeah? Clearly, yeah? He doesn't know what the data is used for.

If anything, yeah? He's actually making it less likely for 'the man', yeah? To improve anything and thus excerbating his own cause.

If anyone knew where he lives (8A in Romford or near I'm guessing?) I'd gladly send him some hemp paper with the word '****' printed on it. Probably also post some hovis through his letterbox. Forum calling-card, yo.

awesome.

I really hope is is the 1st to get the fine.
There are ways to avoid completing it but he is just a grade A tool. Can't stand people like that who try to sound clever but normally come across as massive pillocks.

Exactly this, the collectors aren't experts they are just there to give a friendly reminder. The bloke came to our house a few weeks ago, I told him I'd filled it in and posted it off so it should be on the way - he was fine with that and went.

Then as I shut the door I saw it still sitting on the stairs so I called him back and he took it with him. If they hadn't come and reminded me it would probably have got lost in a pile of rubble (building work ongoing!)

Thing is though, You can do it online, no need to fill it up and post it. Whish is what i did. Why would i wana waste my time going to Post office to post it?

Oh well...

We're always being told to be careful with our personnel data to prevent identity theft but here we are, forced to fill in a form full of our data.

That would still be fine but government has a bit of a history of losing these things, or worse, selling them.

Some people just want to be difficult. Its as if they've never heard of this before or if it is something new.

and will expend 10x the energy and thought putting it off rather than 10 minutes to fill it out.
