I caved and ordered a Vertex 120gb just hope i possibly get one of the ones spare that or I will be waiting a while

My 240gb Vertex 3 just landed on my desk after a 3 week wait! I managed to find one for £436 including shipping too, not a bad deal I think. Can't wait to get home and fire this baby up - I've never even used a PC with a SSD before!

Hi guys.

I am thinking about mabe getting one of the OCZ Vertex 3 240GB SSD drives, the one on OcUK that costs £469.99 inc VAT but
I have some questions before I decide whether to go for one or not.

Is the OCZ Vertex 3 SSDs definitely much better and faster in all areas than the SSD drive I currently have which is a Crucial
RealSSD C300 256GB? and dose the OCZ Vertex 3 SSDs definitely support automatic TRIM?

I have read that you need a really good system to benefit from the OCZ Vertex 3 SSDs performance and a Intel Sandybridge is
recommended, so I was wondering what kind of performance can I expect from a Vertex 3 SSD Drive on my current system in my
sig compared to my Crucial RealSSD C300 256GB and will I get anywhere near the Vertex 3 top performance on the system?

If I do buy one of these i`ll obviously be conecting it to the SATA 6GB Marvell Controller on my Asus Rampage III Extreme Motherboard
but i'm not sure what kind of performance i'll get with the drive on this controller.

Are you sure those numbers are correct? A vertex 3 for under #1 per Gb?

Looking at the beta test results on the OCZ forum and this quote from the other thread the Marvell is not really capable of keeping up with this drive. It's still going to be fast, just not maxed out.

If you check my HDTune results for Vertex 3 120gb on Asusp8p67 Marvel controller

You will see it is maxed out at about 270mb/s so If you only have a Marvel controller then I would stick to Vertex 2! (Or consider getting addin Sata3 card?)

It seems if i`m going to be using a OCZ Vertex 3 on a Marvell Controller then i`m best just to stick with my RealSSD C300 256GB as
going by those test results you guys posted above the OCZ Vertex 3 is slower than the RealSSD C300 on this controller.
