They shall not grow old, as we that are left grow old.
Age shall not weary them, nor the years condemn.
At the going down of the sun and in the morning
We will remember them.

Favorite quote of any poem.

Very few 'words' have ever stuck to me like they have.

We will remember them.

The older, wartime (2nd WW) people of this country did us proud. My dad done his bit, god bless his soul. Truly remarkable people who didn't moan about their situation. They got on with it.

God bless all those who took part, saved our country and those that gave up their lives for us all.

Anyone who is interested or wants to know what life was like in WW1 trenches should read EPF Lynch's "Somme Mud". Its a diary written whilst in the trenches, its a very good read and very sobering.

They went with songs to the battle, they were young.
Straight of limb, true of eyes, steady and aglow.

They were staunch to the end against odds uncounted,

They fell with their faces to the foe.

They shall grow not old, as we that are left grow old:

Age shall not weary them, nor the years condemn.

At the going down of the sun and in the morning,
We will remember them.

Lest we forget.

I like to think that those who give their lives for the rest of us are remembered in every moment we live a free life :)

Amen to that.

One would hope that these heroes and their bravery are never forgotten.

It pains me to realise that various communities are unaware of what this day represents and have no idea of the atrocities that took place for certain people to be living here as freely as they do.

I am shocked by the relatively tiny amount of responses to this and the other Remembrance thread. I really hope the lack of response doesn't reflect an apathy towards observing this day.

I am at home today, awaiting a delivery, but I shall be observing the 2 minute silence at 11am. Everyone should do so - these men and women were people's loved ones. They died protecting our freedom and they deserve our respect.

I bought a pin and lost it within two days grrrrrrr

Bought a paper poppy to replace it though so at least it's a good cause.

My grandfather lost his 2 brothers during WW2, himself having served in Burma with the Royal Artillery.
He has always had my utmost respect. As do all who have served, and continue to serve their country
