Remembrance Day "We Will Remember Them"

We had a large meeting today, and to my surprise and joy they paused the conference for 11 for 2 mins. That was really rather a pleasant surprise. :)

Tried to explain it to my 4 year old the other day. Quite complicated. Not sure if they'll try a two minutes silence in a reception class... She's got a poppy though.

Turns out they did do a 2 minute silence. They listened to The Last Post and my little girl said that she was very quiet.

Less than half of my office observed the silence.

Big site of 331 people today. The only silence we had here was when everyone sat down to have tea at 12. It seems to be a dying habit. At least when it comes to the office side of things. Truth be told, I think people just don't care.

When poppy sellers walked around school, we couldn't have a pin if we bought a poppy. Considered dangerous.

At 11am though, the school bell rang and the whole library stopped for 2 minutes silence.

I was silent at 11, but only because i was so bloody busy that i totally lost track of time. Gutted. I prefer to stop what i'm doing and reflect on what a cushy number most of us have, thanks to the people who often didn't even make it out of their teens.

Fire alarm sounded and everybody immediatley fell silent. People in the middle of calls just hung up. Some stood at their desks.

I think it's quite sickening for people not to observe it. Having been to the battlefields myself it makes the whole thing a lot more moving.

Edit: Just read the DM link. What idiots.

Just a comment on the DM link...whe the hell are the police having to use tax payaers money, and time taht could be better used, to escort these idiots in a protest in which they are calling british people scum...seems riduculous to me, and then show pictures of british people being dragged away.

Think i did quite well to type all that without swearing to be fair...how the HELL can you sit on our capital city saying that we are all scum and should burn in hell and get away with it. If we stood in a muslim country and did the same, we would quite literally be shot...then again if we did it in THIS country, we would be "racist"

Rant over, think its a disgrace that absolutly nothing is going to get done about it where as if it was the other way round the book would be thrown at us

It's intended to make your blood boil. Then they win.

Ignore it. It doesn't have to stop the rest of us being respectful.

What I'd like to see is WIDE SPREAD CONDEMNATION from the muslim community. Not just one or two 'ignore them' comments.

Thus far, its not happening. Why we have to ask.

Had the two minute silence in work which most observed. Apart from the guy sat in front of me who thought it was fine to carry on typing grrr.

Really annoys me they are that selfish they can't spare two minutes of the day as a matter of respect.

As I said before, the 11th is for EVERYONE who has been affected by war, not just British.

God they're a bunch of muppets, I hate the way our Government are a bunch of wimps

..which is exactly what I said :p?

The change is just apparent because the Poppy is taking on a whole new distinction for our generation, due to the conflicts happening in our lifetimes. Which, whilst it is tragic that troops are dying nowadays, is good in a way because it makes people more aware of where the Poppy and Remembrance Sunday came from, and hopefully means we will never give up this simple act of honouring the dead.
