What recommendations can you give me for remote access software? I've tried unsuccessfully to set up a VPN due to their firewall setup and the port forwarding, so I was going to give some remote access software a go instead as the firewall shouldn't block that out.

It needs to be able to run on Server 2000 as that's the box they want to get into outside of work and they want to be able to get into some shared folders/files.

Price is not too much of an issue and bandwidth will be quite low, so what are the options, pay once or monthly subscription? a 14 day trial would be handy so we can try it out.

Cheers.

Try the EchoServer from echoGent - you have a remote proxy server (can be on your own network, just need to open port 1328 to the world for this server) and then connect the clients and servers to this "echo server"

you can try their echo server, or install your own without paying - just cuts you off after 5-10 mins (just re-connect to carry on.) £200 gets you a fully commercial licence for the echo server

It uses VNC as the remote viewing software, but you can introduce encryption for your own peace of mind

I work from home with this setup - and can quite happily work on my remote machines as if I was sat infront of them

RAdmin or Remote Admin is a very good peice of software.

just tried this, and yes it is very nice!, has a little file transfer box too, shame you can drag directly into the screen from your own -i think the newer tightvnc builds support this..

to get it working with windows firewall, need to allow %windir%\system32\r_server.exe

Hi, sorry for the hijack, just been on your webpage bledd. I know that lot all too well. For me it's Crohns. Baggies of the world unite, and i don't mean West Brom.

i get the last stage of my reversal operation a week today, fingers crossed will all go well :)

will get some serious psp + mp3 player time in when i'm in hospital

I can't get remote desktop, VPN etc to work because they have two firewalls in series and I can't get the ports to forward through both of them. There is no way they will consider switching off their system so taking the extra 'wall out is annoyingly not an option.

RAdmin is one option except we don't want the user to have control of the server, just access to shared folders. On that note that rules out Remote Desktop.

Bledd, any chance you can PM/email/MSN me about your Crohns. My g/f has it and it would be great to chat.
