remote access

Why not use the Remote Desktop built into XP Pro/Vista? It's a heck of a lot faster than VNC. You can even hack it to allow multiple users to log into one system.

Actually, it's only faster than free edition/legacy versions of VNC which use the older polling or 'VNC Hooks' driver capture method. The VNC Mirror Driver is much quicker than terminal services graphical updates.

I am using version 4.2.7, the option is server side and is turned on by default. Check through its configuration for Inputs > share files with clients. You must both be using the VNCViewer.exe not a java applet in an internet browser. Right click copy (either PC), rightclick and paste. Must be in an active session for this to work (i.e you cannot copy - connect - past. You must connect - copy - paste).

I hope something in the above may help. Otherwise just re-install it, delete old reg keys, prgram data and temp files aswell (might aswell).

Good luck with that

It's likely he is using VNC Free Edition, for which file transfer isn't supported. Download a free trial of VNC Enterprise edition from the website and give it a whirl:

Granted, it has the initial configuration which is more than that of competitors (logmein, teamviewer). But the performance and features overall are better :)
