Remote Start your Pc?

Alright guys, Just wondering if anyone here knows of a way to remote start a pc?

Like your car key unlocking/starting

Ive had a quick google but cant find a good product to do it.
Would it be possible?

I know its complete lazyness but ha!

Only one I know of.

Wakeup over LAN might be the only other way.

I don't think there's a way of doing it unless the computer's in sleep mode / has some fancy hardware connected to the motherboard with some kind of receiver.

Because in order for the computer to receive the connection to turn it on it needs to be on!

I hope someone can tell me I'm wrong because it would be really useful!

yea i was looking for some hardware like the link shadowake pasted, but with a Keyfob/Button if you know what i mean

This makes me mad because I know I seen exactly what you are talking about before. Looks like a key fob for a car but starts your pc. I thought it was kinda cheesy tbh because it's not like I have to have my pc running before I hit the room but if you were talking about more remote than that, (like starting it from another pc), then I can't help you there.

EDIT: try searching for Logisys Remote Control Molex Connector Kit, that's as close as I could come...

I think a media centre remote will turn the pc on from being hibernated, you do have to be near the receiver though

yea thats IR.

that Logisys Remote Control Molex Connector Kit looks good, you you think you could wire it in to the on off button on the Pc?

That's what I was thinking. The power button is just a bridge between to metal pins so I don't see why it couldn't be done.

can wake on lan be done over wireless? if so, get a phone with wireless like mine....im so doing this if it can be done. You could prob rig something up to a phone actually, where when it rings it wakes the pc up, then you could just phone your pc to turn it on.

But then every time your phone rings it turns on... Not the most useful of things.

i wouldnt off thought you could turn the pc off tho?

even 5Sec hold either.

but i suppose you would just Manually shut down anyway so

This works fine. There is a WOL app for the iphone that I used, and it starts any of my PCs at home. Of course, it only works while your PC is connected to your network, and you are in range of your wifi AP/router.

I know you can set you pc to turn on by mouse click or pressing a button on the keyboard somwhere in the bios. If you just had a wireless mouse with you

You should certainly be able to set a 'power on via PS/2 device' in your bios.

I had it set to turn on with the space bar on my old PC so I didn't have to lean under the desk to push the power switch.

surely if the pc is off then it wont be connected to the network though? or does it have to be in sleep mode with the setting "allow windows to turn off this device = no" on the wireless?

when i said set up a thing with a phone i didnt mean with your normal phone, get an old mobile or something, i dont know why im thinking of this anyway, must have seen it in some film.
