Removing security tags

I got some shorts today in town and had a look a minute ago and the security tag is still on them.

Is there any way it can be removed without damaging the shorts other than taking them back to the shop and showing the receipt?

Depends what kind of tag it is doesn't it? I thought one type just needed a strong magnet to pull the pin back to unclip it while the other has some sort of ink/dye vial in it doesn't it?

Just take it back to the shop. This kind of thing happens all the time, and they'll do it regardless of whether you have the receipt or not

This happened to me 3 years ago with a pair of trousers from Tesco. Couldn't get the tag off, so I brought it back to have it un-tagged upon proof of receipt.

I work in retail, and very recently a gentleman came back with his razor cartridge pack still in the security case.
He had attempted many things to try and break them free, and even ran the case over with his car, to no avail. The plastic was designed to twist and destroy the product before it can be freed, hence his razors were nothing but shards of metal in a warped plastic cocoon.

He asked for a refund, I kindly told him to shove it.

TBH if a store has a system where a customer can pay for a product and leave the store with a security tag attached with no warning when leaving they should be paying the customer to return to the store.

Seems excessive security for razor blades, are they diamond-edged or something?
