k ive just installed XP Home, a genuine original CD with a genuine key, but its not letting me get any updates and it says i have 30 days to activate?? How do i remove it?
Call Microsoft on their freephone number and explain the situation and provide them with your legit key that is being refused. If it is legit then you shouldn't have any problems.![]()
First of, windows don't put the code on the CD and 2nd codes don't expire.
You've either got an illegal copy or MS has blacklisted your code and you need to call them.
CDs are mass produced, so how can Microsoft save a unique key on each CD? It simply can't be done. Instead, they have an algorithm that checks the keys... hence why they're printed on the CD case. Its not this is a genuine Windows XP home, I will try and post a pic if i can. The cd key IS on there, I followed this..

but it was in the i386/unnatend directory and i had to show hidden files.
The only thing I can think of is that your installing it on different hardware to what the disk was provided with.
It must be a restore disk that was provided with the computer if the key is on the disk. OEM's put an install script in the unattended folder on the CD so you don't have to do anything to restore your installation. The only thing I can think of is that your installing it on different hardware to what the disk was provided with.
