I'm looking to remove the wallpaper, get my walls skimmed then paint over the walls.

First step is to remove the wallpaper. On the ceiling I got paper with a design and then it is painted on twice. This will probably be the most obstinate of tasks.

What are your wallpaper removing techniques?

what can I get to speed up my process? (for all you chemists out there)

Wallpaper steamer and a scraper. Make sure you puncture the wallpaper with the provided tool first. Should come off easily.

Edit: Just realised I was the first post in GD.

Use Mustard. Lots of Mustard.

steamers are most effective, failing that a sponge and water. and steamers are good and can be used for all sorts of things so you could use it for other stuff and they're pretty cheap.

When you start stripping the ceiling paper, just prepare yourself as it could be hiding a multitude of sins (if you didn't put it up yourself that is).

I recently decided to strip the wallpaper that was covering my bathroom ceiling and everything was going fine until the ******* ceiling collapsed (looks like the only thing holding it up WAS the wallpaper).

My attempt to surprise the missus with a freshly painted, wallpaper-free, bathroom has turned into a ******* nightmare :(

Hopefully your plan will go smoothly though :)

I had my whole place covered with woodchip wallpaper (every single piece of wall you can find), as you can imagine this thing is almost impossible to remove. I used a steamer + scrapper and it was hard work to get it removed, each wall took on avarage 3-5 hours of work but it was well worth it, the place looks so much better now.
