Riight, i have just passed my test and bought a car, and i have full insurance on it,(2 and a half grand :O). I have a 02 reg 1.2 clio.

is there anything i can do to improve the performance of the car, stuff that i do not have to declare to my insurance company, or that i will not have to pay extra for.

It can be really little things im just looking for tips really, i dont expect to be able to find a loophole that allows me a turbo or anything.

Please dont think im some stupid 17 year old that wants to drive fast, because im not i would just like a little extra out of my car, its frustrating driving a 1.2 after learning in a 1.8 sport. thanks

Sell it and buy something faster.

Alternatively, just live with it, and wait until you've got some experience and No Claim's Discount under your belt, then upgrade.

Not really, no.

And omg @ £2500 to insure a Clio 1.2. Do you live in Manchester?

Lightening the car maybes. Taking out the rear seats, door cards etc. Also a panel filter, not sure if you have to declare it but its not like an induction kit but an element. TBH you shouldn't have bought a 1.2 if u wanted to go Faster than a 1.2.

You don't need to take the rear seats out, just lower them. It will reduce drag and lower the cars centre of gravity. Faster acceleration and cornering.

As said a 1.2 will not go faster really without major money spent on it

You won't listen to us anyhow but I suggest you don't bother spending any money on your first car. Just save it for next year and something better.

Take ya socks off don't wear underpants, shave your head and have a poo.

Everything else is pointless, you won't find anymore power out of it without spending silly money and by definition increasing the bhp means informing the insurance company.

i dont plan on spending a lot of money on it so i will listen to you, just because im young doesn't mean im a complete idiot, i can see that there is a strong opinion that i shouldn't do anything to my car.

Although some nice alloys might look nice :P might just go for that.

Edit and i might fold down them seats and give it a go sounds interesting, thanks a lot.

Ok for anything that improves performance you need to declare to the insurance company. However these 1.2 clios are pretty nippy as standard as small engined cars go.

Two things that these repond well to are 1) a replacement k&N pannel filter. Bolton non sealed induction kits will cost you power but replacing the filter with a freer flowing one can help improve things. 2) The 1.2 clio also responds very well to a remap as well.

Drop me a line and my tuning shop will sort you out and I will do you a special OCUK discount. Were gonna be looking at least 15-20bhp increase on one of these maybe more going off the 1.2s we have done before and the RR results.
