Renault 1.2 improving performance

i meant that perhaps the 15-20bhp increase from the remap also required resistors of justice and electronic superchargers.

however i do have visions of e-bay power resistors and perhaps some stickers....

Stop messing the OP around:rolleyes:

Of course I was joking. :D

There is nothing you can do to the car. Use it for a couple of years get some NCB built up, save the money you would spend modding it and at the end of year 2 buy something quicker.

Now thats sound advice + not a hint of plastic bodykits or 17" wheels in sight!

some nice alloys might look nice :P might just go for that.

However unless you get decent (read: expensive) alloys, they could work out heavier than your steelies and make the car slower. Same if you go for larger than stock wheels.

Advice - keep it entirely stock, care for it, clean it and save up for your next car.

advanced driving instruction. it may even make your insurance cheaper, and it'll teach you about maintaining momentum and stuff, that'll make you quicker point-to-point

Just going to echo what’s been said already, save your money and keep the car completely standard, get some ncb behind you then start thinking about upgrading.

Which 1.2 is it though, the god awful 8 valve or that actually quite good 16 valve? If the latter then just leave it as is, fo rthe engine size/size of car it goes quite nicely round town and motorway isn't hard work just sitting at 70-80.

If it's the 8 valve though then there's no hope, sell it asap :)

get a panel filter. Will make the hp go up very slightly (1-2hp) and the car overall feels quicker as it is way more responsive. It does not need to be declared as it is a replacement filter. A big cone from motorworld etc will void the insurance and so will any sort of induction kit.

that is the only way of getting more performance without having to declare it.
A remap on a non turbo car that hasn't had anything done to the engine is a waste of money.

If you do lower it then you need new shocks aswel as the stock ones wont last long, and remember alloy wheels are heavy.

hope this helps

Get the centre silencer taken out and a straight through pipe put in place, makes my 80bhp 1.2 slightly quicker at the lower end. Dunno how a straight through would sound on a manufacturers backbox though :p

It does nothing of the sort - it makes more noise, which gives you the perception you are going quicker than you are :)

The only things I would consider are..

A free flowing panel filter, and possibly drilling the airbox (depending on its location).
Depending on how long you intend on keeping the car, you could get a stainless exhaust. You dont have to get a 4inch cherry bomb. Just something that sounds a little nicer than stock and will last forever.
A set of clio alloys off a better model.

They're not going to make it quicker, but it may sound a little nicer. Still a waste of money mind, but if you have itchy pockets....

The car would struggle to move off the mark with the 17" wheels I put on, it has helped.

But then again I have the non standard stainless backbox and straight through.

I drive a 1.2 16v Clio as my first, and whilst I understand it is far from a quick car, I'm happy to stick with it until I can move onto better things.

I just imagine myself in a few years in an RX7 or Scoob, that keeps me going :D.

Riight, i have just passed my test and bought a car, and i have full insurance on it,(2 and a half grand :O). I have a 02 reg 1.2 clio.

is there anything i can do to improve the performance of the car, stuff that i do not have to declare to my insurance company, or that i will not have to pay extra for.

It can be really little things im just looking for tips really, i dont expect to be able to find a loophole that allows me a turbo or anything.

Please dont think im some stupid 17 year old that wants to drive fast, because im not i would just like a little extra out of my car, its frustrating driving a 1.2 after learning in a 1.8 sport. thanks

im not taking the mickey but i wouldnt even waste my time and money trying.

for one if you change anything you will have to delcare it which may mean an increase in your already stupidly high insurance and two (and most importantly) its no good polishing a turd.
