Weird config. Only benefit I can see is the weight being shifted more to the front which is how last years Bridgestones worked best, not sure about the Pirellis yet.

Surely those exhausts are likely to be damage if the car collides with another car, we have all seen it, two cars turn in and the front wheel of one car connect with the sidepods of the other.

Some good close up pics of the new Renault exhaust. It's positioned there so the air from the exhaust goes under/around the sidepod and is still fed to the diffuser.

No.

I do hope that they have some miracle insulation around that exhaust. 900°C exhaust pipes around the radiators, fuel system, oil system, electronics, drivers bum....

Chances of at least one toasted Renault R31 are looking higher than normal.

I imagine it is an evolution of the blown diffuser.

Better front weight distribution and/or to make space to put the KERS system further forward/lower in the car. At a guess.

The weight distribution is fixed this year.

Maybe they put the batteries in the space where the exhausts would have been. I suspect that it's an aero thing though.
