Renewing with o2

Hi everyone I am just wondering a few things.. I am due for renewal in about 14 days, I have been a loyal customer with o2 for over 10 years with two contracts (mine and my wifes). The same phone numbers, just an upgrade each year.

I am looking at an iphone 6 64GB, either 2GB or 5GB data (likely the 2GB).

Anyway my brother in law has just renewed, he has only been with o2 3-4 years and they offered him an iphone 6 64GB, with 5GB data for £46 (normally £53) with no upfront cost. A saving of £7 a month.

I want a deal also, being a loyal and longer customer who has never had any issues. How would I go about it? I normally upgrade on the o2 website but obviously there is no room to haggle.

Any tips? :)

Main tip I can give you mate is find a deal out there...including cashback from Quidco for example...and be prepared to go for that.

Tell them what you can get and then it's up to them to beat it for you. Stick to your guns and ask for your PAC code, just make sure you find a competitive deal you are prepared to move to.

This way they're more than likely to be inclined to offer something to keep you and if it's enough for you then go ahead and take it.

Remember you can always say you'd like to think about whatever they offer.

Call up to get your PAC code, and see if you get a deal you like, if not say you'll take your number elsewhere, then wait until the outbound retention dept call you and offer you an even better deal (the PAC is valid for 30 days) so no need to use it immediately, and even if it expires you can always request another one :)

Mines due next month, I've been with O2 for about the same length of time, but not sure if I bother getting another contract phone as my Nexus 4 does everything I need it to. I'm tempted just to go for a contract sim but have plenty of time to make up my mind.

Find a better deal then bargain. Then wonder why you're wasting time bargaining when you should just have moved. Loyalty gives you nothing. But we all know that now.

I scream at the guy when I do my car renewal, "why is it $500 when it was $250 last year" "costs have gone up sir" "f'off you have 3 mins to make it less that $250 or I move" "245 ok sir?"

there is no such thing as loyalty anymore for customers...even those loyalty schemes really give you a lot less that it gives the supermakets from a data perspective.

Mine is December I think. So a long way off, but I aint going on another contract. I've bought a openplus one so will keep that for a couple of years and go on a PAYG or contract sim.

As a network provider I just prefer o2 but I guess now is the time to look at deals!

Some solid advice on this thread.

I also have been with O2 for a long time and BT Cellnet before that. My current contract I got with O2 was via the Car Phone Ware House. The deal and service I got from CPWH over O2 was bl**dy great, and I still got O2 airtime. Even O2 could not match the same deal with their own airtime and products that CPWH gave me.

My contact has a few months to go and I will be looking down many avenues than just O2. I do as a norm request my PAC code and then go shopping for a deal.

Loyalty is a little out date notion and I am sad that it does not carry as many benefits as it once did. Shame the world has come to this !

I was up and ready to leave O2. Until they updated the TuGO app for business users. Now I'll be staying a little longer.
I work all over the country and have drivers on various networks all over the country and coverage on the move seems to be much the same.

The only issue I would have is staying in country B&B's and having no siganl but having WiFi. Now TuGO has been updated all is good.

Best not let them now that though when it comes to renewal

This is a good point.. !

I was in Iceland recently and a tour excursion was cancelled because of bad weather. The default time period to go on the tour again was 2 - 3 days. However I used the O2 TU app to phone the UK travel agent and rebooked the tour for the following night. I could do this as I was not going to get any roaming charges. I have phoned home via O2 TU app when I was in Vietnam and the cost is what ever your UK tariff is, for me unlimited minutes !

I am very surprise that none of the other main mobile providers have a similar app

I spoke to them yesterday, it took a while but I managed to get the £31 early update fee waived, the iphone 6 64gb for free, the contract itself is £43 for unlimited minutes and texts and 2GB of data.

So I got the phone and extra 1gb data a month for less then I am paying on my previous contract, only by about 13p a month but still good :D

I think O2's new tariffs are all 2GB od data now.
That is a good deal....
