Renting with animals - why is it almost impossible?

My house may have been contributed to by in-laws, using inheritance. However we've put in north of 80k in renovations.

Now stop searching through forum history to throw at people, thinking you're a clever little detective.

Seems I hit a nerve eh?
No searching, I simply remember this stuff.

I have no personal experience of having my life dictated by landlords, I've been owner occupier since I moved out from my parents, so no nerves are being struck.

I'll simply defend principles of fairness wherever the opportunity arises, and will call out undue righteousness from people who should be a little more ready to recognise their good fortune compared with those they criticise.

It comes across that it’s your nerve that’s been hit by how defensive your post was.

Why do you care what someone you don’t know on a forum thinks?

I’d be curious to know why you seem to think all tenants are scum that cause large amounts of damage to properties and then move out having not paid a penny??
I never said all tenants are.
We have some wonderful neighbours who rent. Some with amazing gardens, wonderful home. Clearly caring for them as if they were their own assets.

Unfortunately... the few ruin the image for all.

I applaud your memory then.
Wish I was equally gifted.

If i was renting, id ensure the property was cared for.

Interesting, it's illegal to say "no pets" in a rental contract here. But you are allowed to say no [specific breed].

So you can't say "No dogs" but you could say "No King Charles Spaniels"

Loads of people here rent with cats and dogs. In.... wait for it...flats! Not sure OcUK is generally prepared for this information though.

I guess it might be nice to have empathy for people who don't have a house bought for them by their wife's parents, but who might want a family pet.

It’s an unfortunate fact of life that you can’t have everything you want. I’d prefer no-one ever had to privately rent, houses were affordable to buy for everyone if they wanted and government housing was available for renting at an inexpensive rate for those who don’t want to.

If you’re going to pay someone to live in their home, you agree to live by the rules they set.

People live differently in different countries - who’d have thought!

But how do the poor landlords cope?!

Your home, not your asset.
Yes, you can't sell it, but you should be able to live a normal family life in it. Like by owning a ******* dog.

Landlords are out of control and wield a lot of power generally, so it might not be something in our gift to change, but we should NOT be in here defending this nonsense.

.....I think now is the appropriate time to post an update:

Just taking him out for a walk. Hopefully I don't bump into the landlord, or it's curtains for ol' Chippy

Renting is just normal in europe almost everyone does it very few own property but then they have rent laws that make it fair for all unlike here where they're simply seen as a profitable investment. Trying to buy a flat is nigh on impossible they all to to BTL here and that vastly inflates prices as they're so much in demand (by landlords). So everyone has to pay colossal rents as a result.

Yes, rental rates here are somewhere between 50 and 75%, and a huge portion of the accommodation available is owned by the state. Funny enough one hour down the road in Bratislava it's the opposite, with very high rates of ownership.
