So, my HD5850 was faulty. I RMA'd it on tuesday and got an email today saying that the refund is being processed.
What would you get as a replacement?

don't really want to go over £150. i was thinking either another 5850 or gtx460.
i am also in the position where i have no gpu for the moment, so i would like to get one as soon as, otherwise i would wait 'til next week and go to £180 maybe.
i am half way through the first Crysis and want to finish before DA2 and Crysis 2 come out.

AMD set up, but motherboard does not support 'full' crossfire.

cheers.:)

I originally wanted to go ati because i could eventually go crossfire if i ever needed to(not likely but nice to have the option)
but then i found out that my mobo does not support full crossfire, so would not be much point. (i'm not that bothered)
Now i am more open to Nvidia. GTX 470 looks good.

Do you think that the msi twin frozr's are the way to go. was very happy with temps. and hardly any noise from fans.

Yeah, thanks Stulid. i'm deciding between the Twin Frozr HD5850 and the 470.

There is a £30 price difference, but in Stock benchmarks, the 470 is a fair bit better than the HD5850, and as i was choosing between 2 MSI twin Frozr's, these benchmarks should be pretty accurate for the 2 cards shouldn't they?

Now i'm just trying to weigh up the £30 difference, performance-wise.
At a similar price, i would take another 5850 over a gtx460, but is the extra £30 worth it i'm wondering?

Pitty you wont have access to the members market for another 2 months and a total of 250posts, there is an unopened msi twin frozr GTX470 going cheap.

thanks for the advice.
as it stands, i will wait 'til next week without a card (just realised i won't be home much anyway in the next 10 days so it's not as urgent as i thought). by that time, the refund will have come through anyway, so i will probably go for the 470.
Who knows, there might even be something in next weeks weekly's.

Problem is, if i did order today or tomorrow, i couldn't really spend more than £150.
So it's probably best to wait.

cheers.

I was looking at the comparisons on Anandtech. Very usefu, but there are no HD6000 series on there.
The 6870 looks to compare quite similarly to the 470 for a similar price.

make sure you select GPU 2011 bench for the newer cards.
