Replacement for faulty GPU.

Right. I was going to wait until tomorrow to see the daily deal as i can only get it delivered tuesday if i ordered over the weekend anyway. but i just spoke to someone who has a 5870 for sale in the local paper. he wants £175 for it. 2 months old, not used much.

Same price really as a 6870 new form here

the one he's selling is XFX. pretty sure it's this one

i would prefer a 5870, but it's second hand, so it's not quite open/shut for the same price.

what would you do?

I'd get the 6870, it comes factory over clocked, not that ugly (a stripy box) and i just prefer the feeling of getting something new, over second hand. I've never bought second hand before. Here's some benchmarks http://www.anandtech.com/bench/Product/290?vs=294, as you can see there's hardly any difference, and the 6870 is cheaper :)

Yeah thanks, been studying the benchamrks for the last 2-3 days now, lol:)
it's actually exactly the same price because i don't get free p+p

also, i don't know if it's the way the picture was taken, but that 6870 looks really long.

Oh right I see, I'd still get the 6870, but perhaps someone better informed can tell you why or otherwise. The benchmarks are so tight it hardly makes a difference, plus the 6870 is OC'd so it might even outperform the stock 5870. Also I don't know much about Sapphire cards, but I own an Asus card, and it is excellent, and the quality is brilliant.

would also be £30-40 more expensive. really don't want to spend more than £170

After all this, i might end up just replacing my 5850!! lol

i was set on the 470, but i missed out on the deal earlier in the week.

the way i see it, i can probably knock him down a bit(in price i mean, i won't actually attack him). At least i'll get to have a look at it before i do anything.

Honestly, today i have very nearly pressed confirm on a gtx 460 super oc for £145 and a 5870 for £219, LOL
and an hour ago i was set on a 560ti. I really can't make up my mind which to buy or how much to spend.:D

cheers, i swear they were not there 1 hour ago, i've been searching all day.

Prob go for the B grade, what do you think, i can't see a deal tomorrow beating that, and there isn't a massive difference between the 470 and 560.

Its a good price for such a card, being b grade it may be missing a DVI to VGA adpator or a molex to pci-e adaptor or something silly like that.

yes it has
Truepower 650w modular.

gonna order it now. thanks for the heads up.

btw, i have been incredibly patient, considering i have been without a gpu for over a week now.:D
