Replacement windscreens and rain/light sensors?

Got Esure to replace my Windscreen with an OEM VW screen after kicking up a big fuss with them. They charged me £75 and autoglass did a good job. Rain sensor works better now than it did before!!

He said they billed *him* though?

presumably his insurance company wouldn't meet the bill and insisted he had an auto glass windscreen.

So he just paid it himself ? at a guess ?

Had a windscreen replaced on my 1 series. It was a non OEM screen and it caused my auto wipers to become completely useless.
It made them so insensitive I had to use manual wipers until I managed to get a a genuine BMW screen.
They came out multiple times and did their 'test' of squirting the sensor and watching it wipe... after multiple calls they finally gave in and fitted a BMW screen and now they work flawlessly, again.

Why didnt you get it sorted before the chips became cracks is my question..

Because I was outside of the country when the chips occured, and they started forming cracks during the drive home.

Sorry for not being able to teleport.

Besides, repairs are just delaying the inevitable anyway.

Repairs work well. I had a chip that was showing the merest hint of starting to crack. Had it resin injected. The windscreen lasted another 5-6 years until it cracked after someone shunted my parked car. The original repair remained intact.

Well, Autoglass were called and scheduled for 11am today, as of yet, still no autoglass.

They would have been unable to repair anyway given the proximity of one of the chips to the edge of the screen.

They've finally arrived, 2 hours late, without Audi branded glass (even though I asked for, and had my insurance company authorise it), and with a copy part that doesn't have the sensor pre-attached, nor does it have the sun strip.

Good show Autoglass, well done.

When I had the windscreen done on my Fabia Autoglass didn't have the sunstrip I asked for. I was just keen to get it fixed so I accepted it.

This is sounding like my experience with a competitor.

If its the same, the next stage will be the guy damaging your wing and bonnet.

This is why I dread ever having to have my 'screen replaced. The whole fiasco sounds like it's a massive ball-ache 90% of the time :( I really don't want cheap glass, scratched paint, poorly fitted trim or leaking / rusting a year down the line :(

No, the next step was them "completing" the job (including the gel pack for the sensor, so not completely incorrectly), breaking the sensor, fitting the glass that badly that the wind noise is utterly ridiculous, breaking one of the trim peices, and not understanding that you have to put the windscreen wipers in park before trying to lift them, otherwise they scrape the bonnet.

The best bit? They aren't even attempting to rectify the situation until Monday afternoon, meaning I now have a huge sodding yellow display at the top of the DIS showing me a warning symbol, an annoying ear-peircing beep every time I get in the car, and lack of functionality of the DIS because of the space taken up by the warning.

All that, plus obviously the wind noise and the lack of auto lights/wipers.

Utterly, utterly useless.

Obviously my insurers have been instructed not to pay out (by me), and I haven't paid my excess, but quite how they couldn't grasp that I want the job completing by someone competant was infuriating. The woman at the other end of the phone was unable to get her head around the fact that I don't believe Autoglass have the skills required to complete the job, and that I was it rectifying elsewhere. Obviously they have lodged a complaint with Autoglass, but they want Autoglass to sort it out, I don't.

Well, on Sunday I got a phone call informing me that Autoglass would NOT be coming out to me on Monday as I had yet to pay my excess (and had instructed Churchill not to pay out), and that any further work amounted to "warranty" work and as such was subject to me paying FIRST.

Obviously I tell the idiot on the other end of the phone that I'm hardly likely to pay out for a job that resulted in part of my car being broken and a handful of features being disabled as a result. I was asked in what way was the car broken, then told that it was simply a case of resetting the sensor (it wasn't, as I've used VCDS to try this, hell I tried it whilst Autoglass were present THE FIRST TIME).

The phone call ends with me being told that the manager of the local branch (Stockport) will be calling me on Monday, as there was nothing else the weekend phone monkey staff could do for my account.

Monday comes, and surprisingly I do get a phone call, first thing in the morning. I tell them of the wind noise, the sensor, and the farce that has been the support given so far by Autoglass. The manager appears to be very sympathetic, and we arrange to have Audi marked glass brought out for the swapover, however this can't be completed until 7 days have passed since the initial install (I'm pretty sure this is utter twaddle, but have no way to prove this), as they have to wait for the "glue" to fully set (it can't take a week, surely?).

So, tomorrow is D-Day... again. Let's see what happens this time!
